If you've ever tried tracking down a process in Windows Task Manager, you know it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Process Explorer makes the job a lot easier. This freeware utility displays running processes in an intuitive tree format that includes not only process names, but also program icons and other data, such as description, image, and processor time.
It also can identify the process for a given application window or look up a process name in Google--a handy way to spot spyware. Additional features offer detailed information on performance, DLLs, threads, handles, TCP/IP connections, security settings, and environments. Despite its lack of visual polish, Process Explorer is one of the best Task Manager replacements we've seen.
Publisher's description
From Sysinternals :The Process Explorer display consists of two subwindows. The top always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, and the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode the Process Explorer is in: If it's in handle mode, you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if it's in DLL mode, you'll see the DLL and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.
Version 8.52 includes extended process searching, strings listings for process and DLL images, and a new Tray tooltip.

Version: Process Explorer 9.12
"The best standalone process manager...better than Task Manager"
Pros: Its free.
It gives each process its respective program icon, making it easy to discern what each process is related to (if you otherwise didn't know).
Provides more information about each process than Task Manager could ever dream of providing...like location of the file, associated processses and DLL's, etc. Very very helpful.
It lets you do the same functions as Windows (XP/2000) task manager.
Im not sure if this works for Win95/98/ME, but if it does, then this is 1,000,000x better than the CTRL-ALT-DEL window.
Cons: I think the only con related to this program is that you cant replace the option in the right click context menu off the Windows task bar to open this program instead of Task Manager. That would be a neat feature I don't think the developers every considered.

Version: Process Explorer 9.12
Pros: Brilliantly solves the problem of UNDELETABLE FILES and folders, which viruses and others leave behind them: Simply type in the filename, stop its 'handles' and then delete it.

Version: Process Explorer 9.12
Pros: Strong program. Free. Wonderful people to deal with if you need anything. Way better then Task Manager. Recommend Filemon and Regmon for advanced users that want to see what files and registry keys are being accessed by certain programs.
Cons: Could look nicer, but for free, I won't complain.
