Publisher's Description
From aSwIt:
Printfil allows printing from DOS, Unix, Linux, host programs to any Windows printer, including USB, GDI, network printers, fax printers and PDF writers, without changes to the original applications. You can set your application to print to an ascii file, or you can let Printfil capturing one or more parallel ports (PRN: , LPT1: to LPT9:), automatically redirecting your print jobs to any printer, even to a printer which is physically connected to the captured port or if no LPT ports are physically installed on your PC. It allows also: preview printing; include logos or other images stored in separate files; colorize the text; print A4 landscape sheets in place of printing on dot-matrix 136-column printers; print to ANY printer installed on the Windows Control Panel, including USB, GDI, Windows-only and Virtual printers; send print jobs via fax (using any third-party fax software which acts like a printer - eg. Microsoft Fax - or a multifunction - all-in-one - printer); use specialist windows fonts (barcodes, for instance) as well as normal characters; export print jobs in PDF format, with or without user intervention, even with encryption and password protection; send print jobs via e-mail by using your own e-mail client program or an SMTP server, with or without user intervention; use a single, customizable set of escape sequences for ALL printers, regardless of make, model and emulation provided (if any, as for GDI printers); print complex jobs to legacy printers in RAW mode (graphs, drawings); archive a copy of all the captured jobs; use multiple printers simultaneously. All this without changes to your applications. If you are developing host based applications (like Unix) to run on a Windows Terminal Emulator, you can stop battling with transparent-print characters and different settings for different printers. All you need is a shared file system (NFS, SCO-VisionFS, Samba, ...) or a Terminal Emulator, and PRINTFIL

"Didn't get the job done."
Version: Printfil 5.16
Pros
Can't think of any.
Cons
Tried this program to get a BJC80 to work on my laptop with only usb ports. OS is Windows XP Pro. Have proper printer to USB cable and though computer found printer, it would not communicate.
Summary
Should have tech come with this program.

"Great free upgrade. Excellent service"
Version: Printfil 5.7
Pros
My dubts about difficulties on configuring it in my previous review have been cleared out. The new wizards are amazing and I've had this upgrade for free!
These guys provides an excellent professional service. They really listen at their customers.Cons
No more. This is the best buy I've ever made.
Summary
I'm using it by some years to capture my DOS reports, print them on Windows printers, and send out them via e-mail as PDF attachments.
The is the only product in this field with important features, like BMP forms merging, which are indispensable to send out real invoices that were printed on preprinted forms previously.
Other features, like print preview, are cool and useful too, but I would use the product even without them.
What I particularly like, is the service offered by this company. Before or after the purchase you always find someone ready to help you in a timely manner. They reply to support requests very fast, and their replies are always accurate and helpful. A must for professional users. -
"Excellent solution even though it's not the simpler to configure"
Version: Printfil 5.2.1
Pros
There are some unique features which makes this product the best choice: print preview, BMP forms and automatic e-mailing of DOS jobs as PDF attachments are my favourite.
Cons
Some configurations could be made simpler in my opinion. I had to contact the support to have everything setup correctly, but they have been extremely fast and helpful. I can surely recommend this product.

"Continual Pop-up Screen pest"
Version: Printfil 5.1
Pros
None
Cons
It failed to work. This program set a pop-up message to my screen every 15 to 20 minutes asking me to purchase the product, when I was doing other things not related to printing. In recent memory I have not had this experience with any other "try before you buy" program. This hassling
makes it not worth the trouble to even try this product for one day--what less 30 days. Furthermore, this utility product is priced more than double what it should cost. In a short time, I have truly come
to hate this application. It was a relief
to uninstall it.
