This file-archive utility's strong feature set and impressive flexibility make it a reasonable substitute for the ubiquitous WinZip. PowerArchiver supports several compression formats, including the new 7-Zip format, which offers extremely high compression ratios. You also can encrypt your archives using one of five secure algorithms. The configuration menu lets you customize almost every feature, including a password manager for encrypted archives, a self-extracting wizard, and an autobackup tool. The batch ZIP tool compresses hundreds of files in one shot, and the multiextract tool unpacks hundreds of archives at once. The program works swiftly and reliably and now supports unlimited-size ZIP archives and full-program skinning. Anyone who needs to work with archive files will find PowerArchiver a versatile, affordable alternative.Publisher's description

"Good but sad its only for 30 days"
Pros: If tired of traditional Winzip formats just try it, its good to have it running on your system for zipping.
Cons: need few more options like to attach with the emails.

Version: PowerArchiver 2006 9.63
Pros: Some years ago I came to dislike the fact that WinZip didn't natively support many file formats. You had to had external command-line softwares to handle ARJ, LHA and others I don't remember. So I began searching the Internet for an alternative and ended up finding PowerArchiver, which at the time was a freeware. I've been a user since then. And since its interface mimics WinZip there's almost no learning curve. Highly recommended.
Cons: Translations have a tendency to lag behind the official English language release. This was worse in the past, but as of today it's still common for both a new version and its translations to not be released at the same time. That's why I usually have the English version installed, even though my license is the (slightly more expensive) international one.

"Tried the rest. This is the best."
Pros: Handles all the major formats. Very intuitive, non-intrusive GUI. Can be minimized to a tray icon.
Cons: Sometimes, it seems a little slow on large files. Like most of the competition, it does not handle .tgz files as a single operation.

"Terrible program, use 7-Zip or StuffIt instead"
Cons: Unlike 7-Zip or StuffIt Expander, this one costs money.
It can't handle .tar files, but it won't tell you that. Instead, it will extract some files but skips others !! This alone makes it untrustworthy/unusable for me.
And, it will completely screw up your file associations. It takes all the ones it knows, w/o asking, and if you happened to be using the built-in Windows Compressed Folders, you'll lose them and have to do some arcane chants to get it back.

"Power Archiver Is a great tool...But..."
Pros: Extreamly cheap, winzip's format is crap, and it cost 2 times more than this...
Cons: But there is a Free Archiver that this is based off of,WINRAR Winlabs.com,So It really is copying its format off of WINRAR...
