Minimalist in approach, this freeware feed reader gives you the latest headlines from online media sites. Popuload RSS Reader's bare-bones interface merely displays a single headline and summary. There are three buttons to scroll back and forth through news items and to change the news source. The current news site is displayed in the lower right corner.
One big oversight is a way to view which news sites are included in each of the eight preset categories. You're only option is to uncheck the box to exclude a category, but you can't view sites listed in each category. You can easily add your own feeds by dragging and dropping the orange RSS icon from the site onto the program's settings window, but you can't assign them to the existing categories or sort your added feeds in any way. If you have a lot of feeds, this can get to be a real problem as you try to tune in to a particular entry. OPML import or a drop-down menu of feeds would have gone a long way to make this app more user-friendly.
Popuload RSS Reader does read feeds, but only in the most simplistic manner. This reader may suit users who prefer to just see the headlines, but this freeware probably just won't satisfy most.
Popuload automatically pops up when you are waiting to Download, Copy and Print. So you can stay informed and entertained with the latest news feeds while waiting for your computer's loading bar. Popuload comes pre-set with some of the most popular feeds, plus add RSS feeds of your choice. Access Popuload from your system tray anytime to browse RSS feeds from your desktop. Popuload notifies you of new feed posts and you can set the time interval for when the information is refreshed. The key feature to Popuload however is while waiting to download, copy and print files, you can read the latest news snippets.
Version 1.0.1 separates pre-set news feeds into Channels for easy scrolling to the desired topic.
