Summary
Pocket DVD Studio for Palm is an excellent and very easy to use program for transferring movies or film clips to your Palm device. I have a 1GB SD card and have added 2 full length movies and still have plenty of room left for other programs and applications. It was money well spent.

Summary
Working with 256 mb SD card in a Zodiac 2 in conjunction with TCMP (latest version - 0.66 - with custom Zodiac video drivers). Fast encoding with P-DVD Studio, satisfying results in 2-pass mode. Zodiac able to cope with 25 fps 400x240 resolution without difficulty, must buy larger capacity card to push what the Zodiac is capable of, maybe 512mb per movie. Interface clear and functional. Help files/manual could do with some additional development. Otherwise excellent program.

This is a fantastic application for those who are inclined towards multimedia and Palm. Like most other apps in this area, Pocket-DVD requires some basic knowledge of audio and video conversions but this is not too difficult if you are willing to spend some time reading the manual and online help. I have encoded quite a few movies and in combination with Div-X and MMPlayer (a good combination for those who do not want to tinker with less user friendly open source apps), Pocket-DVD works without any hitch on my T3. The trick is to reduce the pixel and fps. If you need the specs: The two settings that have worked flawlessly are: REGULAR SCREEN: Crop 6, 320x240 (77kPixel), No stretch, Quality: Mark 2 from left, Audio: 40 kpbs, 44KHz, Joint Stereo, video: 694 kbs, 15 fps. WIDE SCREEN, Crop 6, 400x304 (122kPixel)No stretch, Largest Quality, Audio: 40 kpbs, 44KHz, Joint Stereo, video: 694 kbs, 15 fps. Try these settings and you will LOVE Pocket-DVD! The interface is almost Apple style - pleasant and very user friendly. The screen may flicker or go black before refreshing when you start Pocket_DVD but this is normal (at least in my case). Never had to call tech support. Constant upgrades reflects ongoing development. Strongly recommended.

Summary
Get it, install it, pop the movie in and the conversion is a breeze. Plus, if you know your pda and your encoding, the output settings advanced adjustment is a great addition. Also, a word of advice- if you want great playback once you have a file ready, do not wait, do not ponder, just get smartmovie player. It makes worlds of difference over mmplayer.

Overall this does what it says. However, I cannot get it to stay registered, so I am limited to 45 minute segments at a time to create movies. No response from developer yet about the problem. Otherwise, I would have given in an excellent rating.

Updated v1.2 and XviD Codec improve performance 100%. Problem having to restart from the beginning if you hit the nav-button the wrong way or want to finish a movie later - fixed! You can now start at any point within any movie! Great programming job - basically an entertainment app - still a cross over pgm if you consider the thousands of grafx artists in the media arts that have been using PDA platforms to give exposure to their work. It's about time PalmOS community has the opportunity to get into the Main Stream. (No pun intended) MMPlayer still has a ways to go with play-lists which are non-existing. You have to load with every card inserted. Other than this slight inconvenience these pgms are a match made in Palm Heaven. So why would anyone want to watch movies on their Palm? Well, why does anyone want to listen to music? This is no different than ripping your Audio CD's to MP3. Pocket DVD Studio is the answer for those who want to take movies on the go. Most PalmOS media converters use their own conversion formats and you have to use their players. This is mainstream media - videographers and artists use and is where MMPlayer really shines. Pocket DVD Studio provides the first real Palm conversion of the DVD format. That's why you need MMPlayer. Ever hear anyone complain about buying an MP3 Player? The Industry's Standard, not a make-due substitute, is finally here! Support is also a plus from pqdvd.com.
