CNET Editors' review
Picasa Web Albums is Google's Web photo-hosting service. Users get 1GB of free hosting, and images can be uploaded and manipulated using Picasa, Google's free desktop photo management application. Users who want additional storage can shell out up to $500 a year to bump up the hosted space to 400 times the size of the free hosting service.
Much like everything else Google, Picasa is exceptionally straightforward to use, with a tabbed interface offering three options--My Photos, Favorites, and Explore--the last of which lets you browse the public photo library. Next to the tabs, you'll find a prominent Upload button for adding photos to your albums, which you can set to various levels of privacy. Within your albums, you have the option to view a slideshow, share via e-mail, make a collage or movie, order prints, and edit various aspects.
We really like the integration between the desktop and Web application. Similar to .Mac and iPhoto, Picasa makes it really simple to take photos from your desktop and publish them online for others to see. We're also fans of the built-in geotagging that lets you set where photos were taken either by single photo, or by entire albums. It's a great way to browse photos if you feel like exploring.
Picasa 3:Publisher's Description
From Google:
Transfer, find, organize, edit, print, and share images, all with this easy-to-use product. Watch Picasa automatically organize all your pictures into elegant albums by date. Having all your photos in one place means no more time wasted searching for folders or files. The program works with JPEG, GIF, BMP, PSD, and movie files and is compatible with most digital cameras; it detects your USB driver and imports pictures into albums. Editing tools include cropping (standard or custom), removal of red-eye, and enhancing--even switching from color to black and white. Create slide shows set to your MP3s. Integration with Picasa's free Hello instant picture-sharing software lets you share hundreds of photos in seconds and chat in real time. E-mail photos with Picasa's built-in client to take the guesswork out of compressing images, and order photo-lab quality prints or print at home with no mistakes. You can also make instant backups to CD (or to other hard drives) of your photo collections, to organize your photos using labels and stars (just like with Gmail), to write captions for all pictures, and to organize videos as well as pictures.
What's new in this version: Version 3.6 build 105.61 increased stability through multiple crash fixes and fixed translation errors.

"Awesome & Easy"
Version: Picasa 3.6 build 105.61
Pros
The fix it apps make this program superior to many programs out there while maintaining its quality status
Cons
Not much missing off this application. Perhaps adding more editing features could improve upon it slightly.
Summary
Excellent program with all its updated features. Definitely a must have if your into photography or just a layman. It has potential for growth too.
-
"And it is improved???"
Version: Picasa 3.6 build 105.61
Pros
I cannot tell the difference from the old upgrade. Everything still works and they did not hide the functions that I enjoy using.
Cons
I really enjoy PICASA but they make too big a deal about the upgrades.
Summary
I will continue to automatically upgrade PICASA. Not once has any new upgrade interfered with what I already knew and used.

"Would be great if not for all the bugs"
Version: Picasa 3.6 build 105.61
Pros
Great variety of easy to use features. Excellent for basic photo editing.
Cons
Nasty little bugs that rear their ugly heads on an inconsistent basis.
Summary
Was loving this program when first installed, but quickly discovered annoying bugs. Program wil not consistently save pictures that have been edited (specifically ones with soft focus feature), regadless of methods of saving (numerous suggested on forums, all inconsistent, reliably a problem on the photos you REALLY want to have edited!). Uninstalling and re-installing did not help. Also, when editing after saturation has been added the picture often becomes heavily posterized and/or tinted random bright colours. All in all, if thses issues were sorted out, it would be an absolutely awesome program, but unfortunately, as it currently stands, it's just average and mostly pot luck if you get a usable result from your edit.

"Does all it used to and more."
Version: Picasa 3.6 build 105.61
Pros
The new slide show facility is very useful.
Cons
Haven't found many yet. A little more in the editing department would be good like being able to crop to a specified size--- or have I missed something?
Summary
As good as ever with the general purpose editing. The slide show is useful for weeding out the junk and admiring the rest before showing anyone else!
-
"Free and very functional."
Version: Picasa 3.6 build 105.61
Pros
A functional way to organize and access photographs, easy to use.
Cons
I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements for years and have invested countless hours into tagging photos, and I have not yet found a way to import this effort into Picassa.
Summary
If I could import tags and similar features from Adobe Photoshop Elements I would be very happy with this product. There may be a way to do this; I a still learning. If you are just starting out organizing your collection, this should work very well for you.
