"Problem with Personal Video Database"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.9.21
Pros
Works great finding movies
Cons
The Selection screen that list the choices are over lapped to the point sometimes I have to check out each one on internet to find out what it is.
Summary
Over all is a great program.

"Have tried most "free" movie db's but this one fits"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.9.21
Pros
As a new user, it has not crashed on me yet (as with other reviewers). Has all the things I've been looking for. great selection of Movie images. Its really user-friendly wit a few exceptions. Seems to have a lot of option for input of movies.
Cons
Does not retrieve "full" movie summary but you can cut n paste that. does not always get the MPAA rating. the "seen/wish" buttons are confusing (rather have owned/wish). often time retrieves movie & dvd titles with diff dates - confusing.
Summary
I've decided to go with PVD one because its fairly easy to input my movie collection, easy to edit (so far), has a lot of ad-ins, has a small footprint - 10mb, and seems to have room for a varity of input/import/export features i'll likely need in the future.
Thanks PVD -

"Love it!"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.9.21
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have searched for several years to find an application that could automatically download and incorporate all information about any movie I own or have seen. Finally, this is the one. Once you figure the basics of how to add and edit movies to your list, it's quite simple to use. One of the great things is its ability to save as you add. No need to save or create backups every time you close the program, it's already done. I love this application and would highly recommend it to anyone. -
"True filmophiles will know it!"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.8.9
Pros
The fastest
The most user-friendly
The most stable
The best piece of software, either free, or not I've seen in years!!!Cons
There isn't a single thing that is wrong with PVD! Ask anyone who used it for more than a week.
Summary
I have a collection of `6k movies that were partly cataloged in different cataloging software during years. In a month I prepared single Excel file generated by compiling exports from those other software. It was a file of nearly 30MB.
Once prepared I defined PVD's importing options from Excel, and in a couple of hours imported all data into it, without a single failure. I have never had such an experience while importing data to other software!
In a day I downloaded all online data (mostly IMDb) for all ~6k movies. In a few days later I had all posters and covers for them. And now it looks just like they say it should looks:
See it for yourself: http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?action=screens
Am I someone who's here only to promote it? No. Check by yourself my posts in their forum http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?action=forum and you'll see that I'm just a regular user from Serbia who's delighted with PVD, and who recognized the quality of it.
And the best thing of this is that after three years of constant developing still version 1.0 isn't released, which shows serious approach on developing software. My only dilemma is: what would version 2.x and later might have, while all I wanted for these 8 years is already there in v0.9.x version?
Should I tell you something else? There's no need, I know. Any other answer you'll get there since there is excellent support.
P.S. Please, have mercy for my English :) -
"cannot connect..."
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.9.1 Beta
Pros
pictures of product in action look great; it's free...
Cons
for some reason, connecting using any of the plug-ins of information sites do not work; "importing data" window go on and on and on, w/o importing anything. have mentioned to them about error codes, but i believe they're at a loss also...
Summary
their forum shows some folks with some problems; perhaps i was one of the few with a problem...not happy with the end result.

"This is by far THE BEST software i have downloaded in the past five years"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.8.9
Pros
It has unbelieveble features - really anything you can think of. After you load everything in - this part takes some time, since it retrives the movie information from IMDB (and posters from Amazon), you can choose searches by pretty much anything. For example: movies which you have already seen or not, by actors, directors, genres (comedy drama action horror etc.), by IMDB rating - basically anything you can think of.
I just downloaded it tonight and i spent the last few hours putting in my movies, i dont have that many (perhaps 200 or so) and i found movies that i didnt even know that i had (it can search your Hard Disc for media).
The best part is that its FREE!
Big thanks to whomever developed this outstanding software!!

"The best movie database at any price…"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.8.9
Pros
A powerful and reliable relational database of movies and the people associated with them. Well designed and feature rich. Imported my existing collection with ease. Unattended, downloaded all the IMDb information I wanted. Interface is well thought-out with an easy-to-read presentation, using collapsible fields and good image management. Extensive filtering, grouping, and sorting capability. Excellent filmography, awards and TV series management. Highly configurable. Expandable with import and export plug-ins. Well supported via an active discussion board, where the developer is very responsive to users.
...And it's FREE!

"Awsome"
Version: Personal Video Database 0.9.7.1
Pros
It's like building a miniature version of imdb.com on your own computer. Plug-ins and wizards (supplied) really make it easy to use and auto-fill information. People section is a nice bonus too. Will scan your hard drive if you wish, for movies. Can manually add your own picture if none found (I use google image search if an image is not found in one of the databases it can search). Statistics galore are pretty cool too.
Cons
A little buggy, but nothing use breaking. While viewing a movie entry, if I click on an actor's name, it will take me to that entry in my people section, if I've added that person. Sometimes it doesn't recognize this, and I've even created duplicate entries when prompted to add person. This bug works both ways (ie. viewing person, clicking on movie). Overall though, still rates 5 stars.
