- "This close to perfect"
- Version reviewed: PerfectDisk 8
Maintaining proper disk hygiene is like going to the dentist: You do it because you have to, but it's rarely easy and almost never pleasant. PerfectDisk is a friendly alternative that picks up where Windows' Disk Defragmenter leaves off, adding powerful features, an attractive interface, and a top-notch help file with clear instructions and definitions.
In addition to the standard defragmentation process, it offers a SmartPlacement option, which analyzes usage patterns and organizes data to minimize future fragmentation. Another useful option is offline defragmentation, which optimizes parts of the drive, such as the Master File Table and the page file, that can't be modified while Windows is running. On your next bootup, PerfectDisk takes over, optimizes the selected files, and lets Windows proceed with start-up. The interface features big buttons, bold but complimentary colors, and is short on drawbacks.
The program also offers statistical analysis, scheduled maintenance, and the ability to defragment remote computers running another copy of PerfectDisk. That last feature is perfect for IT staffers, but we recommend the app to home users, too. At its price, PerfectDisk isn't a bargain--but getting this close to perfect doesn't come cheap.

Version: PerfectDisk 8
"Don't settle on anything less."
Pros: I've tried most of the big named defrag utilities, but this is the one I prefer. It has a nice, user friendly GUI. It has several defrag options including scheduled defrags that I run weekly. The best thing about this application is, I never get any disk errors after I run it like I did with "O&O Defrag". I use "tuneup Utilities 2007" for several things including it's "Disk Doctor" module and after running "Perfect Disk 8" and checking my hard drive, there is never an error. I trust this application. This utility is compatible with both "XP" and Vista" systems and it will work on all files from large to small. This is a nice utility and the only paid tool of it's kind I would recommend. There are some well written reviews on this product and those are the kind I like to see when I visit this forum. Well done by "Raxco Software" and the members who have written helpful reviews.
Cons: I have no cons to offer except, maybe the price.

Version: PerfectDisk 8
Pros: Have used Diskeeper 9,10 for several years and gave this package a try. I have a very powerful machine with over 1500 pieces of software and many thousands of files, four printers, scanner, camera, and four other USB devices connected. It normally took me over five minutes to boot this machine. After installing Perfect Disk 8.0 my install time was reduced to just over one minute and the machine appears to have a new snappier life. At first I thought it was my imagination, but happy to say it was not. This program is very well engineered and very nicely designed with a simple user
interface that is easy to follow even without any manual. Tech support and customer support are real people and they do a great job.
Cons: Haven't found any yet, but if I do I'll list them later.

Version: PerfectDisk 8
"I HAD been using Diskeeper for 10 years. NO LONGER!"
Pros: The product is much easier on system resources than Diskeeper 2007. It also is much easier to control the settings. Unlike Diskeeper, it has auto-update. Diskeeper actually in Vista, raised the fragmented files even on a cold-boot defrag. Not so with Perfect disk. Fragmented files went from over 100 with Diskeeper to under 2 with Perfectdisk.
Cons: The only issue, minor at that, is scheduling auto-defrag. Instead of being able to schedule every few hours, it must be scheduled on daily, weekly, or on a monthly basis.

Version: PerfectDisk 8
Pros: This is a great program that delivers on the promise. It works fast (much faster than the Windows defragger) and the interface is easy to understand. My PC runs faster and loading is a dream. Friendly customer service too!

Version: PerfectDisk 8
Pros: I spent several years as the IT manager for a 300-person company and I used Raxco PerfectDisk on all of my servers. It was the only product to be Microsoft Certified for all of the new MS products when they were released. W2K Server, W3K Server, Exchange, SQL 2K Server, etc...
Cons: None
