Maintaining proper disk hygiene is like going to the dentist: You do it because you have to, but it's rarely easy and almost never pleasant. PerfectDisk is a friendly alternative that picks up where Windows' Disk Defragmenter leaves off, adding powerful features, an attractive interface, and a top-notch help file with clear instructions and definitions.
In addition to the standard defragmentation process, it offers a SmartPlacement option, which analyzes usage patterns and organizes data to minimize future fragmentation. Another useful option is offline defragmentation, which optimizes parts of the drive, such as the Master File Table and the page file, that can't be modified while Windows is running. On your next bootup, PerfectDisk takes over, optimizes the selected files, and lets Windows proceed with start-up. The interface features big buttons, bold but complimentary colors, and is short on drawbacks.
The program also offers statistical analysis, scheduled maintenance, and the ability to defragment remote computers running another copy of PerfectDisk. That last feature is perfect for IT staffers, but we recommend the app to home users, too. At its price, PerfectDisk isn't a bargain--but getting this close to perfect doesn't come cheap.

Every time you use your computer, even when it's brand new, the files on your PC or laptop will continuously become fragmented. This means that these files are split into millions of pieces, and this occurs even more so when you go to add, modify and delete them. So when you go to access a file--even just to read it--it will take much longer than necessary because Windows has to first find each piece of the file before you can even see it. This makes using your computer, and doing everything you want, much slower than it should be. Fragmentation also leads to much slower boot times and will make applications run slow or even potentially cause them to "lock-up" or freeze.
Defragging your computer puts the pieces of your files back together into a single piece--the way they should be. A defragmented computer will boot quicker, files will be accessed faster, and your applications will not hang. A good disk defragger will not only defragment, but will also consolidate the free space on your drives into one large piece so when you create a new file, there will be enough free space to save that file in a single piece, rather than fragmenting right away. Defrag for a faster computer and a healthy PC.

"Perfectdisk 12.5 is a great investment"

Pros
I have used it on my SSD for about six months. It instinctively knows the difference between my SSD and HDD and makes adjustments. It pretty much uses Data consolidation on the SSD vs Smart Placement on my HDD. Together, both drives work fast and in harmony! New features are a plus. Find duplicates and clean out files one doesn't need can be handy.

"Annoying update, not worthwhile"

Easy installation, clean interface.
Cons
No possibility anymore to block the auto update function and do a check manually. With this version the program will decide and think for you. I think many users do not like this.
After the update you are stuck with leftovers and files you do not need (about 68 MB) Remember the day you were glad with a HD of 20 MB... Context help is not complete or is giving errors.Summary
The update is not worthwhile, a big annoyance.

Builds upon all existing features from 12.0 with the return of Space Management tab for Professional versions only. (if not now, will be coming back soon)

If you are an existing 12.0 customer, the 12.5 upgrade is a free upgrade, however the new licensing upgrade system for 12.5 is a complete joke. Shouldn't have to go through all that trouble just to get the 12.5 upgrade for free.
Summary
Not too sure what 12.5 brings to table over 12.0 but it's just as stable and offers a plethora of defrag options just like 12.0 did. Only NEW noticeable difference is the return of Space Management.
