Publisher's description
From LeahScape :If you're like most people, you have a few passwords that you use over and over again on many different websites. You know this isn't secure, yet you do it anyway. Why? Because it's difficult to remember a unique password for each and every web site that requires one. PasswordMaker is a small, lightweight, free, extension for Firefox and Mozilla which creates unique, secure passwords that are very easy to retrieve. Nothing is stored anywhere, anytime, so there's nothing to be hacked, lost, or stolen. You provide PasswordMaker two pieces of information: a "master password" -- that one, single password you like -- and the URL of the website requiring a password. Through the magic of one-way hash algorithms, PasswordMaker calculates a digital fingerprint which can be used as your password for the website. Many other options are included, like applying l33t-speak, password field auto-population, and more!
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

Version: PasswordMaker 0.6
"Allows you to use very secure passwords, but you don't need to remember them!"
Pros: 1. Finally allows to use secure passwords, without the need to remember them or write them down.
2. Easy management of accounts on different sites, with fully configurable password settings for each account.
3. Has many advanced options for handling web sites that put restrictions on passwords (eg. must contain both letters and numbers, length must be between x-y characters, etc.)
4. Can populate user/password fields automatically, or with a single key-stroke, or from the context (right-click) menu.
5. Gets better by the day.
6. Free!
Cons: That it wasn't created years ago...

Version: PasswordMaker 0.6
Pros: Good security practices dictate you should use unique strong passwords for each and every site you login to, this is necessary because if you use the same username and password on all sites System Administrators and hackers can lift that password and use it on other sites. In the past you had three options: Write your unique passwords down - easy to loose & not secure, use the inbuilt browser password manager - doesn't survive a reformat and can't be used on more than one system, or use a password vault like roboform - hard to use on more than one system and difficult to populate websites with. Well now with PasswordMaker you use one hard to guess master key and your passwords are generated on-the-fly. If you install PasswordMaker on another machine the same master key will generate the same passwords. And the generated passwords are never stored on your machine they are generated in real time! TRY IT!
Cons: Although the beta version supports whitelists the stable version doesn't. This means if you go to a site that sets your password for you, you can't override PasswordMaker's default generation routine.

Version: PasswordMaker 0.6
"This product is superb. I have waited years for this type of technology."
Pros: This product does exactly what it states in the description. You will not know how you have lived without it after you use it just a few times. Highest recommendation to all who read this.
Cons: No negatives that I can determine.

Version: PasswordMaker 0.6
"Excellent password hashing extension for Firefox"
Pros: PasswordMaker creates secure passwords using sophisticated and secure hashing methods on a per-website basis. This means that you only need one password, and you can create a totally unique password for every site you visit. It is very well implemented, and integrates well with Firefox.
It also comes with a crudload of options so that your password is even more secure. There are seven (soon to be eight) different hashing algorithms to chose from. You can also set a l33t level, a username, the length of the password, and a counter.
This is a great anti-phishing extension, because it creates the password based on the site you are on. Because of that, it will give a completely different password to paypa1 than paypal.
It also comes with free technical support that requires no registration on their website (just search for PasswordMaker). Response time is very quick. Definitely within 24 hours, often within a few hours.
I can't stress enough how much this has become a part of my web surfing experience. No longer do I have to worry about giving the same password to everyone, and how much of a security risk that is. Now, I don't fret at all.
This extension is one of the best extensions for Firefox, and that is saying a lot. If you have a lot of sites you are signed up for, (or even just a few) you should try this extension out. I can almost guarantee you that it will become integrated into your web browsing experience.
Cons: *No support for Mozilla (coming, though)
*No blacklist for the auto-population option
