This privacy utility is a file-history and browser-trace eliminator demo that doesn't delete anything. Privacy Control's interface is certainly clean and professional. Functions and options are easily found and implemented. There are eight categories of files to scan with more than 270 items listed. There is no method to select or deselect all, even within a category. Users are stuck clicking checkboxes one by one or sticking to the program's default selection.

Once you've set your options, you just click a button to start scanning. Privacy Control quickly scans your system to find the items selected. A helpful list of found items is displayed. With a double-click you can preview items, or check boxes to remove items from the list. Clicking Erase then deletes all checked items. At least in theory. The demo won't allow you to actually delete items. There is no method to check how well the items are removed by either the normal delete method or the advanced shred option.

We like Privacy Control's speed and number of items scanned. We found the demo limitation unacceptable. Many programs in this genre allow a select type of file deletion to prove the program's capability. Nevertheless, users looking for a professional privacy trace eliminator might find the very good scan speed enough reason to register this demo.
