Based on customer feedback, Palm has created a backlight utility that m500 and m505 handheld users can download to their handhelds for more control over their handheld's backlight feature. How the Backlight Utility Works: The backlight utility remembers the last backlight setting. This is particularly helpful in low light conditions. With the backlight utility installed, turn on the backlight by holding the power button for two seconds. The backlight automatically comes on the next time you power on your handheld. For example, press the Date Book button and the backlight is on when the application appears. To turn off the backlight, you simply hold down the power button for two seconds and the 'backlight-off' state is remembered the next time the handheld is powered on. Note: Using the backlight utility does draw additional power. To conserve battery life, we recommend turning off the backlight when it is not needed. Palm m500 Handheld Users: For m500 handheld users, if the backlight is on in well-lighted conditions, the screen may appear odd-looking. Simply hold down the power button for two seconds and turn the backlight off to return the screen to its normal state.
