Publisher's Description

From Parental Control Products:

PC Tattletale is an easy to use Parental control and Internet monitoring software that makes it easy for parents to help protect their children when they go online, use instant messaging, chat rooms or anytime children are online. PC Tattletale Internet monitoring software automatically records: All E-mail--both in and outbound mail, all Chat sessions, all Instant Messages, every Web sites visited, all Keystrokes, Passwords, and Videos and social networks too like FaceBook and MySpace. This software will answer that question and show you exactly what they do, where they go and who they talk too. So even if you're not at home, the software helps you keep an eye on your child's safety as PC Tattletale takes screencaps regularly. PC Tattletale won't show up in the start menu or control panel, so your child will never know it's there. Note to parents: Like most parental control or internet monitoring software, PC Tattletale requires that you set an exclusion with your anti virus software. But PC Tattletale makes it easy with our simple to follow online videos that walk you through the process in just minutes. Trend Micro anti-virus is not compatible with any parental control or internet monitor software.

    "Lack of features"

    July 27, 2010  |   By colonsegur

    Version: PC Tattletale 8.1.17

    Pros

    Screenshots and keylogging are good

    Cons

For child specific product it should have more control, not just recording.

"Only for languages that don't use diacritical marks"

    June 10, 2010  |   By Jazc

    Version: PC Tattletale 8.0.098

    Pros

All-in-one package: screen captures, key logger and e-mail alerts.

    Cons

Useless if your language uses diacritical marks. You won't be able to enter them. Worse, according to Bryan Fleming from support, they don't plan to change the key logger (it means they don't plan to correct this bug).

    Summary

Would you use a software that restricts the use of more than half of your vowels?

The computer feels slow when running this software.

It lacks a "live" view of screen capture frames when moving the slider, it only updates the viewed frame when you release the slider but not while you are dragging it.

"Good monitoring, but not a filter"

    October 14, 2007  |   By sloshgator

    Version: PC Tattletale 7.9.286

    Pros

The application has comprehensive monitoring and tracking features including screen snapshots, key logging (including passwords), site tracking and keyword tracking. If you want to know what someone did on a PC after they did it, this is a pretty good package for doing it.

    Cons

PC Tattletale is inadequate for blocking Web pages even though their documentation leads you to believe it can do this. Web sites with offending content is clearly displayed for many seconds before it forwards to the Microsoft Live website. To defeat this, simply hit the browser "back" button. It might change to the alternate site again a few times, but it eventually "gives up" and lets the user see the "blocked" Web site. Tech support gives the excuse that the application is monitoring software and not designed for filtering. So, I guess the appropriateness of the application depends on what you intend to use it for.

"A really great software for parents"

    July 25, 2007  |   By jennycal247

    Version: PC Tattletale 7.8195

    Pros

I have used this software since 2003 and it keeps getting better and better. It does exactly what they promise it will do (unlike some others we've tried) and it makes my job as a parent a lot easier!

    Cons

Well, like most parental control products / software these days, it gets incorrectly tagged as spyware by the big antivirus makers like Norton.

Funny how norton tags this PARENTAL CONTROL SOFTWARE as "spyware" and yet they manufacture and sell their own parental control software....?

"15,000 Downloads and only one other review of this great program?"

    October 15, 2006  |   By NavyMustang

    Version: PC Tattletale 7.9.115

    Pros

Great user interface, functionality, and options. I have mulled over parental control software for three weeks now trying to figure out what would be the best option for monitoring my 14 year old girl. This is it. It offers e-mail notifications for certain things (such as MySpace passwords), which make it a top-notch program, and the price of $49.95 for TWO licenses beats all other competitors hands-down.

    Cons

No online monitoring. There was another monitoring program called WebWatcher Kids that claimed it was the best because it offered the ability to log on to their servers from any computer and see what your kids were doing. Regretfully that program didn't even come close to being better than PC Tattletale, even though it can be a pain to have to go to the computer being monitored to see what's going on. That's the only "CON". Offer online monitoring, and you've got the best program ever.
