Publisher's description of Opera 9 beta 2
From Opera Software:Note: This beta version is meant only as a preview of the upcoming Opera 9. The latest fully supported version of the browser is Opera 8.54.
Opera is a free Web browser with a pop-up blocker, multiple-window navigation, mouse gestures, keyboard shortcuts, an e-mail client with a spam filter, and integrated search for user security and speed. The cross-platform browser includes IRC-compatible chat, support for RSS newsfeeds, a password manager, and one-click customization and privacy-protection settings.
Among the many new features in Opera 9 are widgets, which are small Web applications (multimedia, newsfeeds, games and more) that make your desktop experience more fun. BitTorrent is now integrated into the browser, eliminating the need for a separate client. Content can be blocked by user preference, and search engines can likewise be customized. Hovering over tabs provides a thumbnail preview for easier navigation. Site-specific preferences allow you to apply different rules for individual sites.
The beta 2 version includes tweaks to widgets, BitTorrent support, and RSS newsfeeds.

Version: Opera 9 beta 2
"Opera is flexing its muscles once again!"
Pros: Not only will this beta 2 perform faster than version 8.54, it will make you feel secure without having to add additional extensions that you would require with Firefox. This complete package stays low in the radar with being exposed with any security holes and provides you with essential functions with the download. Once again, the forward and back buttons and mouse gestures are the FASTEST around and for a beta it seems more stable than the latest full release. I will continue to praise Opera for its genuine user friendliness and performance. If you are looking for a full function browser that you will feel safe with, Opera (among 1 or 2 others) are the way to go. The options, skins and presets are extremely persausive as well as the smooth appearance. I've always found Opera to be probably the easiest to use since you don't have to search through extensions. The full release of this browser will be a definite download for me and I will use this beta as confidently as if it were a full release regarding security. Opera won't steer you wrong. Great free browser with no hang ups and a fast growing user base. It's neck and neck but the options that come standard with this browser are inching ahead!

Version: Opera 9 beta 2
Pros: It passed the Acid 2 test. It can view web sites perfectly. It's faster than IE. It has widgets and safer browsing. Too bad for IE7 because it didn't pass the Acid 2 so few websites won't display correctly.
Cons: It has lack of plug-ins. Doesn't support Macromedia Shockwave Player.

Version: Opera 9 beta 2
"Opera is going to be the best handsdown. No disputing that."
Pros: What you expect from the previous versions but more. The newest edition includes widgets, and bittorrent support. I didn't exactly know what widgets were until I downloaded widgets. It seems to be Opera's version of Mozilla extensions. You can get clocks, calculators, periodic tables, dictionaries, among other things I tried. There was a lot more too that I didn't try. I tested the bittorrent support of the program. At first I didn't think it worked, because it didn't say it was "pending" or anything like that. Just a simple "?", but by giving it some time the torrents started downloading, so yes it works, though I think there could be some improvements. I don't think you can share the files you downloaded through Opera with Opera, so it's not a P2P "I think". I would think it would bloat the program too much maybe, but I tried some dedicated torrent programs, and they didn't perform too well. At worst they would mess up my cable connection. Maybe I don't know how to set them up? I tried Mozilla Firefox, and IE7. Opera is the best out of both of them overall. Firefox still feels clunky, and seems to drag itself all over the place, even as you start the program. Extensions are nice, but being run by open source, the extensions can mess up your Firefox, and not guranteed to work properly. IE7 is perhaps going to be the best IE, but still behind in features in my opinion. Opera has a combination of good features, and performance. It's the fastest browser, lightest browser to use on the Web these days.
Cons: There isn't any cons so far. So far good program. Looking like the best Opera so far.

Version: Opera 9 beta 2
"Fast, fantastic, free of clutter but incompatible with numerous websites."
Pros: Lightning-quick; a password manager that can be backed up; integrated search engines; intuitive tabbed browsing that actually acts like tabbed browsing without the need to toil at the "Preferences" like in Firefox; an interface that's pure of any clutter; feels like an offline desktop application when brwosing the internet, it's that smooth; and features such as highlighting text then the option to treat it as a link or copy it to the clipboard or notes, the ability to block images and fit or zoom webpages to screen, features that require multiple extensions in Firefox.
Cons: Incompatability with numerous websites eg Gmail (partial), Google calendar, WebCT. It's bittorrent manager is overly simplified and will not be of much use to anyone, but at least they've recognised the technology.
