If you're not already a pro at using the command line, OnyX is a solid choice for conducting routine maintenance and tweaking the interface on your Mac. This free utility shares much of the functionality of applications like Cocktail (which its help files suspiciously resemble), and it can help you with everything from checking S.M.A.R.T. status on your disks to configuring the Dock, Finder, and Dashboard and Expos to your liking. OnyX can even help you run Unix utilities and change your desktop to an animated background. As with all OS-tinkering applications of this kind, most features work most of the time, but your mileage may vary when it comes to effectiveness and stability--so buyer beware (especially given that OnyX doesn't cost anything).Publisher's description
From Titanium's Software :OnyX is a multifunction utility for Mac OS X (PowerPC and Intel). It allows you to verify the Startup Disk and the structure of its System files, to run misc tasks of system maintenance, to configure the hidden parameters of the Finder, Dock and of some of Apple's own applications, to delete caches, to remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome and more.

"I am very happy with this software. I functions perfect"
Pros: The software must do as advertised since I don't have any problems with it and I put it through all it's paces. Used the software for many years from tiger through snow leopard and it never caused any problems.
Cons: time consumming

Pros: Wish it was as Good as the 10.5x vers but it gets the job done fine.
Cons: Needs the preferences of the 10.5x version.
Summary: For 10.4x it does it all safely.

Pros: i dont know since i couldn't install
Cons: Could not install on my mac. It told me that i needed OS 10. 5! The title clearly says OnyX (TIGER!!!!!) 1.8.5!
Summary: Over all OnyX sounds like a great program, too bad i couldn't install.
