Publisher's Description
From The Omni Group:
OmniDiskSweeper is a great tool for making space on Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server and Mac OS 9 disks.
When you start OmniDiskSweeper, it presents you with a list of disks attached to your machine. You double-click on one, and a new window opens with a browser listing every file and directory on that disk, sorted by size. This is very fast for HFS+ partitions: it takes about seven seconds to process one gigabyte. UFS partitions are significantly slower.
Then you browse through the files and directories, and delete the large ones that you aren't using any more. The free space on the disk and the ordering of the directories are automatically recalculated. If you aren't sure what's in a file, you can double-click it or drag it onto an app on it to open it. It's that simple!
What's new in this version:
- Customer found a bug in 10.1 -- the window no longer refreshed automatically when sizing. Turns out we checked to see if our lastRefreshUIDate was more than two seconds ago, but we never actually initialized that variable to anything. How did this work under 10.0? I dunno. All fixed now
- We now remove the prefix path "/private/automount/Network" if present, which is where all NFS mounted drives are under 10.1. Left in the old code from 10.0, which removes "/private/Network"
- We now r... See all new features

"See where all your disk space has gone."
Version: OmniDiskSweeper 1.7.2
Pros
Shows you your volume sizes, allows you to delete offending huge files. It will even do network volumes.
Cons
Kind of slow.
Summary
There is a much faster utility called "What Size" but it they charge you a nominal fee. Considering this is free, I can wait. Must have utility! Omnigroup has an array of beautifully designed, no compromise Mac apps that you really need to take a look at.

"A Good look at disk how your disk is occupied."
Version: OmniDiskSweeper 1.7.2
Pros
Shows the disk directory ordered by sub-directory/file size. Tis is especially useful when you have to prune a tight disk
Cons
In leopard it frequently crashes when the user is displaying different parts of the directory.
Summary
Excellent display that provides unique information about disk utilization marred by an operational problem associated with Leopard..

"Does what it says it will"
Version: OmniDiskSweeper 1.7.2
Pros
Shows you the actual size of all the files/folders on your drive, including hidding files/folders.
Cons
Takes a little while to do each scan/analysis. If you use File Vault, you have to scan your home directory separately. Doesn't help with cleaning out old pref files, etc.

"At least it didn't crash"
Version: OmniDiskSweeper 1.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
After having crashes with the prior version I had given up. I was glad to see a new version. I fired it up and it didn't crash. I selected a previous system from early last year and clicked on the delete icon. I confirmed and after 1/2 hour nothing had happened except the trashing message was still there. I then quit OmniDiskSweeper. As a test I selected the same folder in Finder, hit command delete, command shift delete and the trash is still being emptied as I type. In fairness, Finder takes a long tome as well. I should note that TM is running. I will try another test after some other brave soul takes the point. -
