Notepad is a Notepad replacement with an eye toward programmers, although it should also appeal to the casual user who wants a cross between Notepad and WordPad. Notepad has some noticeable differences from WordPad. Support for tabs is key, letting users manage different documents simultaneously. Line-numbering is important, too, a feature that nobody mucking about in C should be without.
The interface is much simpler compared with some of its competitors. A familiar row of icons with their mouse-over labels sits at the top, and one row of tabs is just below that. The rest of the screen is made of nothing but pure white space. All the coding tools live in the menu bar, with some represented on the toolbar. Users can compile and run macros, convert text to Hex, submit directly to W3C for validation, launch in Firefox and IE, and more. There's also a built-in spell-checker.
Choosing between Notepad and NoteTab Light probably will depend as much on layout as anything else. Although, forgive the pun, notably Notepad can not autoreplace Notepad, it's still an excellent Notepad replacement.

Version: Notepad++ 4.0.1
"Light like Notepad, powerful as C++"
Pros: Notepad++ is fantastic tool for any developer. It is so light and simple, yet has almost everything (web) developer might need. Tabs, session saving and loading, great markup, 30+ languages support, tag beggining/end highlight, +/- tags closing, character replacement, macro recording, favorites (!) and a bunch of other handy options to fit your fine needs.
It very usable during work (i.e. when highlighting part of line, when you accidently move mouse to lower or upper line, it wont put you back to line beginning, like other text editors), only 1.37, free, so everyone must consider installing this fellow.
Cons: Knowing it's free and so light, you can't really expect it to have things like preview and w3c compliant code generator, can you? And besides, tr00 developers don't need that stuff.

Version: Notepad++ 4.0.1
Pros: Like Firefox, FileZilla, MagicDisk, and many other programs, this one should just come with the operating system. Notepad++ is absolutely jam packed with almost everything you could ever want from it. A wide array of file compatibility, the ability to use tabs and remember which ones were open when you last, and line numbering and bookmarking are all notepad-essential features that Notepad++ provides. It's also an extremely useful tool for coding and scripting, as it's not bulky like Dreamweaver or Visual Studio, and has syntax coloring for almost any scripting or programming language out there as well as automatic indenting. And all this isn't even most of the pleasures anyone may find from Notepad++.
Cons: Nothing except that I wish it has auto complete, but I guess that's what Dreamweaver is for!

Version: Notepad++ 4.0.1
Pros: Pros: This is one of the best software products that money can't buy. It's fast, has a great tab interface, handles all kind of formats, including UFT-8, handles all kinds of languages, from ADA to XML, and features that go on and on, and you can read about elsewhere. The bottom line is that it works and it works well. If you're living with Notepad or a mediocre text editor, then you won't know how you ever lived without Notepad++.
Cons: Cons: There's nothing I don't like. I do wish it had a toolbar specific to HTML for dropping in tags, but it isn't specifically an HTML development tool, although it sure goes a long way.

Version: Notepad++ 4.0.1
"perfect text editor, and good for development work"
Pros: Simple and lightweight yet it provides powerful features for editing all varieties of text based files. Color coding and collapsable code makes working with HTML and PHP files very nice.
Cons: Perhaps I just don't know how to configure it, but I would love the ability to set preferences for coding standards, such as using 2 spaces in place of tabs.
This is not a tool for complex project management.

Version: Notepad++ 4.0.1
Pros: It doesn't try to take over your life, it just adds some much needed functionality to the basic notepad.
Cons: Lose the fonts. This is a text editor not a word processor.
