    Version: Network Magic 3

"Wasn't invented for every network types."

by GezaGabriel on May 17, 2006

Pros: Nice GUI and seems easy to use.

The license text's length is around 346 lines (with blank lines but no word wrap): i only write license to pros because i found license texts related to the author's third-party products as well.

Cons: The authors themselves can't decide the name of the product they should give to you.

Some strange parts from license, where i'd need some examples:

    - At 2./b) You agree that Pure Networks may audit your use of the Software for compliance with this EULA at any time, upon reasonable notice." What could be that? It's not clear.

    - at 4. Net2Go: "We may modify or change the URL for your personal web page at any time;..." Bad start?

    - at 13. General: "the Software may collect and send to Pure Networks anonymous product usage information ..." It seems - "may" - it'll collect informations from my computer. A switch is necessery for this whatever they mean under "anonymous".

I had trouble with first install but there are unrequested connections to the Internet:

    - from 1412 to 64.94.116.148.

    - the service may connect to downloads.networkmagic.com?

There's an automaticly installed "Pure Networks NDIS Relay Protocol Driver" protocoll at your Internet connection's protocolls (did they ask me to allow it?)

No option to skip service installations, and so, you can't skip "Pure Networks Net2Go Service", which is not needed if you don't want the Net2Go part (and you can't use that with this software's free release /whatever it's name/).

After submiting a router info, the program hanged for a long time (i closed it). I decided to get more infos: but, Internet gone away for vacation. As a common user thing, i searched for the Uninstaller: add-remove i say with program name "Pure Networks Network Magic". It wasn't able to stop it's services but i helped it's project by closeing the service by the taskmanager. Later the uninstaller opened a web page - i had no Internet connection - and asked me to restart (why it wasn't asked after install but after uninstall?).

Note: the program didn't tell you to disable any security applications, which is a misstake.

    Version: Network Magic 3

"Fantastic product if you are new to setting up networks!"

    by bradlym4 on May 1, 2006

Pros: Network Magic helped setup my network in no time at all after spending a many very frustrating hours trying to do the same with windows xp software and the toshiba laptop software. Until using Network Magic I was unable to get an ethernet connection working between my broadband modem and my laptop, little own any wireless connection.

The network map is great, very easy to read and follow. The diagnostics that the software lists are great.

Cons: Trying to set up WEP security wasn't that easy. There were the help section but no functional links to do it.

"OK for people who don't know how to setup a network."

by mjgamble on May 27, 2006

    Pros: It's easy and quick.

Cons: Couldn't see my router settings and many times said there was no internet connection when there was one. After I uninstalled Network Magic I had to resetup my computer for netorking because for some reasons the settings that were there before I installed NM were gone after I unistalled it.

    "Unmitigated disaster"

by PsyProf on May 23, 2006

    Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: I installed this in hopes it would simplify linking my laptop and two home computers. It did not. I still cannot link my laptop via wireless even though I have good signal. When I installed NM and shared some folders to the network, my MS Office package began running very slowly and erratically. When I uninstalled NM, the problems did not abate. My system is now so unstable dialog boxes freeze and my computer tells me the applications have stopped responding. But if I wait a couple of minutes they resume operation. NM denies that their application caused the problem, but if so, it is one of the most amazing cases of illusory correlation I have ever seen.

    "Nice to have..."

by Kuduhunter on April 27, 2006

Pros: Nice GUI, easy to install, user friendly, pretty decent piece of software

Cons: I had to unistall because of 'network path not found' errors...my win xp system was never able to access folders on my win98 system. Most likely, problems from my end.
