Network Chat is a LAN chat utility that offers a clean interface, emoticons, private messages, sounds, and privacy all in an Internet-style chat window. Included with the package are several .WAV files for use as notification, but any .WAV file can be used. Network Chat can detect the names of all the computers on your network (within the same workgroup). You can also send messages to other users using their IP address, which also works over the Internet too. You can now send private messages as speech messages, which Network Chat will read out (Windows XP/Server 2003 only).

If you leave the link on "start-up", so when you log-in another user account on the computer (without loggin-off the first account), the NWC opens again for this user, and prompt an error that the port is busy (because it's open by the other account).

Adding of new contact is hard if the other person is in another workgroup.

Nice simple yet customisable interface, does the job.
Finds people connected without you having to look up ip addresses/computer names.

Simple setup, easy menus. Haven't found any problems yet.
Cons
The messages have the computer name linked to it, so if you want to IM somebody, you have to know the name of the computer. Not a huge problem.
