Communicator 4.07 is the latest release of Netscape's Internet software suite. Along with the Netscape Navigator browser, Communicator includes a set of tools for effective, everyday communication: Messenger and Collabra, which provide email and Usenet capabilities; Netcaster, Netscape's push technology client; and Composer, which offers HTML design and editing functions. Version 4.05 introduced a new Security window and the ability for users to import and export text in Composer, while 4.06 added certain performance enhancements, extended multimedia support, and Smart Browsing, which allows you to enter keywords directly into the location bar and return search results. Communicator version 4.07 fine-tunes this last feature by searching first for sites that use the keyword as a domain name, and defaulting to a search result only if none are found. It also adds instant link buttons to your personal toolbar, including those for AOL Instant Messenger, yellow and white pages, Netscape Netcenter's home page, and "What's New and Cool" info. Release notes state that this new version includes an initial fix for a JavaScript Cache privacy vulerabilty, and an update to Java Class files to resolve all currently known Year 2000 problems discovered by IBM. Other outside reports claim the JavaScript bug has not been fixed but that Netscape will be issuing a fix within the next two weeks. The complete install adds Netcaster, which dynamically delivers Web-based content and applications to user desktops; Bitstream fonts, which let users view specific fonts and font effects on the Internet or an intranet; conference abilities; and multimedia plug-ins.
