This firewall scored a 0 in my comparison of free firewalls. Google "theymos" if you want to see it, it's the second one down. This firewall had average protection.
Cons
It was heavy on resource usage, and hard to navigate.

Requires manual configuration. A novice wouldn't have a clue how to set it up.

Don't install this Program after 1 year it asks you to input the license code which is not sent out to your registration Email. Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition is a better free firewall.

Light in resources as well as easy to configure and most of all and it's FREE !

despite of having a firewall I still encountered some spywares.

It blocks incoming and outgoing connections.
The control is excellent- It is possible to block individual sites for individual applications, meaning that simply by blocking the access of a program to a spyware site, it can be used safetly. It monitors everything using an internet connection.
For example, somebody sent a virus (a worm I think' via msn messenger to me. It tried to send itself to everybody on my contacts list, but the firewall blocked it, and continued to block it until my antivirus software found the file.
Cons
Sometimes it is too powerful, and blocks automatically a program which I want to access the internet, but that can be overridden in the 'application trust' section.
It is also a bit confusing at first.
