CNET Editors' review
To put it bluntly, some programs are pigs. Bandwidth hogs, to be exact. Many download applications, for example, use as much of your connection as they can. What if you're running more than one at the same time? NetLimiter lets you restrict certain applications' bandwidth usage so more important ones get priority. Using the straightforward interface, you can instantly view connections and stats and even apply different limitations at different times of day. For example, you might allot more bandwidth to download managers and file-sharing programs at night. Our only quibble is the program uses too much memory (12MB). Overall, however, NetLimiter is a great way for experienced users to wring every last bit out of a broadband connection.Publisher's Description

"Absolute Junk"
Version: NetLimiter 1.3
Pros
Couldn't install this software as it froze at 75% on several installs.
Cons
This ruins your system. Beware...if you attempt to install this, make sure you're using a test system or have a backup/system restore.
Summary
This software would not even install - froze at 75% trying to install it twice. Locked up my system and I had to reboot to recover, as the network lost connection via this installation routine.

Cons

"Blue screened twice in 2 days"
Version: NetLimiter 1.3
Pros
Nice user interface.
Cons
I installed Netlimiter, and within 2 days, Windows (Vista) had blue-screened twice (which is very unusual for my PC. It is normally quite stable).
Browsing speed was also significantly reduced. It took at least twice as long to download web pages.Summary
I would buy the product if it a) didn't crash and b) didn't impact system performance.

"Version 1.3 SUPERB! Version 2.7 & 2.8 GARBAGE!"
Version: NetLimiter 1.3
Pros
Version 1.3 is clear, concise, easy to use, and gives you everything you need to monitor and/or limit all downloads & uploads. Really essential if you have a maximum monthly download capacity set by your broadband provider like I have. Also allows you to change the display name of applications so, for example, I renamed iexplore.exe to show as Internet Explorer - much more sense!
Cons
Absolutely nothing wrong with Version 1.3 BUT... I started off using version 2.7 and this STINKS! Really great to look at, but not so easy to navigate round the various 'plugin' windows, and it's SO buggy. The window constantly shows incorrect views that seem to get 'left behind' and as such are not usable, and it refreshes inconsistently and incorrectly. Just can't live with that, so it got deleted in preference for v1.3. Really can't recommend v2.7 at all (btw, also tried the latest v2.8 - same problems!)
