To put it bluntly, some programs are pigs. Bandwidth hogs, to be exact. Many download applications, for example, use as much of your connection as they can. What if you're running more than one at the same time? NetLimiter lets you restrict certain applications' bandwidth usage so more important ones get priority. Using the straightforward interface, you can instantly view connections and stats and even apply different limitations at different times of day. For example, you might allot more bandwidth to download managers and file-sharing programs at night. Our only quibble is the program uses too much memory (12MB). Overall, however, NetLimiter is a great way for experienced users to wring every last bit out of a broadband connection.Publisher's description
From Locktime Software :NetLimiter monitors applications that access the Internet and actively controls their Internet traffic. You can use it to set (download/upload) speed limits for applications or even single connection. It allows you to share your Internet connection bandwidth among all applications running on your PC. This version features minor improvements and bug fixes.

Version: NetLimiter 1.3
Pros: It does a good job, you can monitor and limit single programs, which is great, esp. when trying to find adware or keyloggers etc!
Cons: Doesnt blend with windows. When limiting the actual bandwidth the program uses flucuates much more then if you didnt limit it. Eg, no limit around 8-12kb/s, but limit to say 8kb/s then it flucuates around 3-10kb/s

"Keeps network traffic under control"
Pros: When sharing a DSL network with torrent users, this software kept everybody happy.
Cons: A password feature would be nice so the kids don't keep changing what I've set for them.

Version: NetLimiter 1.3
"Simple, easy, and works perfect..."
Pros: Easy to keep monitor of your application net traffic. You can set upload/download limits per application (very useful for P2P users with a slow upload connection), so your uploads won't clog your entire net traffic. It can chart total in/out traffic, schedule netlimits, and check your traffic history.
Cons: Is not freeware. Some software capatibility issues. Had very serious problems with some software such as Xfire, which in the past used LSPs (latest Xfire no longer uses this and is now capatible with Netlimiter). Other than this, the program is perfect.
