Nero 11 Platinum is a one-stop tool shop that lets you rip, burn, back up, convert, edit, and organize all of your digital media. We think it's a solid multimedia work flow solution for casual media enthusiasts and prosumers alike. But be warned--the installation file is massive, tipping the scale at pretty close to 1GB. And installation takes quite a long time as it takes up about 2.5GB of memory. But, with 11 programs making up the powerful multimedia suite, we can see why, and we aren't complaining.

One of our biggest issues with Nero 11 is its footprint on our system, with its 11 applications and corresponding shortcuts. Not only does it take up quite a bit of memory, it's slightly overwhelming to navigate at times. Luckily, the user experience is now anchored by Nero's media management hub, Nero Kwik Media and the new MediaBrowser window, which gives you quick access to your libraries from all of the applications. Nero has obviously heard users' comments and attempted to streamline the experience. While the suite is somewhat overwhelming in size, we do appreciate that the fixes help us zip around without any issue.

As for what Nero 11 Platinum can do, the short answer is just about everything you'd expect from a multimedia suite. It's an audio, video, photo, data, and home entertainment workhorse that lets you edit MP3s, capture and edit HD video, record and playback TV, create slideshows, back up data, recover data from damaged disks, convert audio files, check your hardware specs, and design disc covers with ease. Further, it performs with impressive speed and has a relatively simple user interface that shouldn't be alienating to novice media enthusiasts.

So what's new? Well, for one thing, Nero Video now includes an Express Editing mode that gets users out of the multitrack timeline and into a comparatively simple storyboard, making it easy to quickly throw together basic projects. And with this simplicity, Nero has brought some more advanced features like picture-in-picture overlays, support for AVC Camera files, and 3D effects. While they may not be professional-level features, many of the new additions do spill over into prosumer territory, which means quite a bit more bang for your buck.

There's also LIVEBackup, which provides automatic and continuous back up security with a single click. And now, with Kwik Media joining the suite, users can even create and order nifty photobooks right through the application. While Kwik Media does provide a convenient hub to manage all your media, one thing we're not so sure about is the integrated Market. While in-app purchases of new features might make sense in theory, we aren't confident it's going to catch on.

Nero has also gone to great lengths to improve file-conversion and sharing capabilities. With the much-improved Nero Recode, it's easier than ever to convert media between virtually any file formats and to output to virtually any device. There are also built-in tools for sharing to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, and for burning high-quality Blu-ray and DVD discs. What's more, you can even sync your media between your PC and Android via Wi-Fi or USB. Considering the increasing importance of mobility these days, these improvements are arriving just in time.

From what we've seen so far, Nero 11 Platinum appears to be a winner. Sure, it's huge, and takes quite a bit of time to install, but with its 11 applications, it packs some huge features on top of the bread-and-butter functionality that made Nero 10 such a popular download. Plus, it comes completely reconstructed for improved performance and a more streamlined user interface.

"AN EXERCISE IN CUSTOMER NO-SERVICE"

April 18, 2011  |  By rhkern

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.5.10

Pros

ABSOLUTELY NONE

Cons

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CUSTOMER NO SERVICE
HORRIBLY LONG INSTALLATION ROUTIONG
NON-INTUITIVE USER INTERFACE
APP THAT DOES NOT WORK WITH NO REASL SUPPORT IN SITE

Summary

To say that NERO customer (no)service stinks is a gross understatement. I could not agree more with earlier reviews. The last version of NERO I had used was V6. When I was offered a April 1st special of $39.99, I though why not give it a try as I had been using Adaptec, Sonic and, Dazzle which ultimately became Roxio in the meantime and decided why not give NERO another shot. - WHAT A MISTAKE. To say that the UI and video authoring capabilities were on a par with Roxio would be far from accurate - but - I was willing to work with it because "old habits die hard". The straw that broke the camel's back was their Back-up program - which booted. I selected to create a disk image & defined the drive and immediately a "NERO has stopped working" error message popped up. That image continues to pop up immediately after executing the program. What is stranger, is that in spite of this, the NERO Back up program has created multiple random disk images - one each on 4/12, 4/13, 4/15, 4/16 & three on 4/18 -2, of which appear to be partial, and one complete. ?but all attempts to execute the program have the same result "NERO has stopped working". How true that statement is - NERO HAS STOPPED WORKING - , as calls to NERO are a TOTAL waste of time, unless I want to send in an email, chat, or pay $1.29 per minute for support. I neither want to wait for an email reply nor enter a "typing contest" in chat. I want to speak with someone who has a working knowledge of the program without providing credit card information prior to speaking with anyone and hopefully be able to quickly resolve my problem. Attempts to find executives' phone numbers have been unsuccessful. My only recourse seems to be to dispute this charge on my credit card, as, at least for me, this product is useless. I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. Obviously NERO is unaware that WITHOUT CUSTOMERS, THEY DO NOT HAVE A BUSINESS.

"All in all it a very intuitive video editing program"

April 11, 2011  |  By golfsferr

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.5.10

Pros

Intuitive and forum and tech support is good. I have found tech support to be responsive by way or live chats and email responses.

Cons

A few too many bugs that required some searching in the forum to find the work arounds but it offers a lot of features.

Summary

I had Adobe Premiere Elements and got my money back. It was combersome and nerve wracking to use. Nero 10 is a lot easier to use and that makes it infinitly more enjoyable.

"PAINFUL TO UNINSTALL"

March 28, 2011  |  By ClayTechSupport

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.5.10

Pros

It worked mostly, some errors when burning ISO's, other software burnt one fine

Cons

Installs like 10 different Nero programs that ALL have to be removes separately. Tried the clean removal tool, and even it didn't remove all the programs. Had to run Revo Uninstaller on each program to get them to go away fully.

Summary

Install if you want, be prepared for a pain in the rear removing.

"Nero BackitUp is GODAWEFUL!"

March 14, 2011  |  By thesingingdog

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.5.10

Pros

Nero burning ROM works good.

Cons

Having to register patents after buying (limited functionality after 3 months), crap Nero Backitup that wants 20 DVDs to back up a 80GB hard disk that is 99% empty. The software is 90% bloated and could easily fit into 20MB.

Summary

Such bloated, unrefined crap coming from Germany who usually make good software.

Cons

I was into install when I noted that the software was installing "ask" toolbar and other unwanted bloteware. No option for Nero software only and that was all I wanted.

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! (3/5/2011)

I have been a Nero customer for many years until now. My recent purchase of Nero Multimedia Suite was my last due to $19.00 that Nelson would not credit back into my debit card. Your President's Day sale e-mail ad advertised for $47.49 with coupon code, I was billed $66.49 because I choose the download method after entering the coupon code. Nelson from your Glendale office simply said President's Day sale is over. In other words TOO BAD! Well now I am on a campaign to rate Nero Customer Service worldwide. Sincerely, Doug
