One disadvantage of digital cameras is the visible grain--or noise--that may significantly degrade image quality. Neat Image is a filtering application that mutes the multicolored spots or textured appearance created by digital photos. It doesn't just use a bunch of blur and sharpen filters; instead, it studies the noise profile of your camera and uses a sophisticated algorithm to cancel or balance the noise of an image. You can browse the publisher's site to find noise profiles for many digital cameras and scanners.
The utility draws a clear distinction between noise and details in images, and we were thoroughly impressed with its results. Neat Image did an effective job at enhancing images without affecting quality, particularly in the deep shadows or solid-color areas of our photographs. The program is plenty fast if your PC has a good deal of RAM and processing power, but it may be a bit sluggish on older machines. Overall, Neat Image makes pictures squeaky-clean and seems like a fine addition to any digital photographer's arsenal.

"Glad to see Neat Image so well received."
Pros: Neat Image allows my photos to look crystal clear and professional and that means a lot to me considering I'm only using a $99 digital camera. Neat Image is very easy to use and affords the luxury of taking expensive-looking photos without the price tag. I'd rather spend thirty dollars to clean up my photos than $600 on a top-grade camera. I've used two other products (both were more expensive) and was very impressed with Neat Image.
Cons: Great application but has caused my PC to freeze up twice, however, that could just be my PC.
