- "Keep kids on task"
- Version reviewed: My Reward Board 1.61
Whee! Assigning tasks and setting goals enter the realm of fun with this creative application that will delight kids with its rich animation and bustling hands-on participation. My Reward Board is colorfully and whimsically designed with activities planted in icons throughout the screen.
In a password-protected environment, adults and kids can assign household or school chores from eight categories, or create their own. Kid-earned points can be traded for short and long-term payouts, like allowance and spending time with parents. Kids can earn bonus points for achieving personal goals, and can play with the program's many extra features.
One downside of the 15-day trial is the program's bloated use of system memory. At 16MB, it's not exactly a featherweight. However, if you have memory to spare, the program's appealing method for tracking assigned tasks, its game-like feel, and inventive reward system provide a fun chore-list alternative for elementary-age children and parents alike.

Version: My Reward Board 1.61
Pros: My kids really enjoy and use this product. It was easy to set up, and mostly self-explanatory. It confused me at first that there was so little in the way of "help" and FAQ's, but that's because it's really not needed.
This program can track chores, behavior, allowances and more. The kids get star points for doing chores or working on behavior goals, and they can spend the star points on rewards ranging from extra TV time to going to an amusement park. They can save up their points from week to week for the big stuff.
Parents set up a password that is needed for certain functions, like making changes to the point total and printing out reward coupons.
I highly recommend this product.
Cons: Occasionally I run across something I'd like to do but can't -- for instance, there's a demerit tracker, but the demerits are only used to withhold the child's allowance if they get too many demerits. The demerits do not take away from points earned by doing chores. Also, we found that when we added demerits to our daughter's account, the weekly payout of star points would not go through. The program froze up completely during the payout process. This apparently is a bug in the program.
I'd also like to be able to customize the rewards available to each child. The rewards are customizable -- you can disable any you don't want to use, and you can add new ones -- but the list of reward choices will still be the same for all kids, regardless of age and interests.
