This batch MP3 tag editor is, in the words of a user, "simply indispensable." If you're looking for a freeware ID3 tag editor with an auto-tagging feature sourced from FreeDB, Amazon, or discogs, you could do much, much worse than Mp3tag.
Besides checking and correcting song tags en masse, the lightweight application sports batch and single edits to effect such changes as case changing, auto-numbering, tag and track name flipping, and user-defined actions. There's playlist support and configuration exporting in six formats including CSV, HTML, and RTF. Support for more than two dozen languages offer the program up for international use, and a Favorite directory makes it easy to return to your music assuming you keep all your tracks in the same root folder.
The interface is a bit too simple, though. It won't be hard for anybody to navigate once you get used to the busy Toolbar and using mouse-over labels to identify button functions, but it certainly could be clarified with bigger buttons, or at least more easily identifiable icons. At worst, the user interface will slow you down, but in no way should it stop you from using this top-flight MP3 tag tweaker.
Publisher's description
From Florian Heidenreich :Mp3tag is a powerful and yet easy-to-use tool to edit tags of MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Musepack, Monkey's Audio, FLAC, and WavPack files. It can rename files based on the tag information, replace characters or words from tags and filenames, import/export tag information, and create playlists. The program supports online freedb database lookups for selected files, allowing you to automatically gather proper tag information for selected files or CDs.
Version 2.44 adds support for cover art for Ogg Vorbis and Musepack SV8.
What's new in this version:
Support for cover art for Ogg Vorbis, support for Musepack SV8, new and updated web sources (discogs, Amazon Cover, MusicBrainz), support for Windows 7, improved support for fields with multiple values, and Amazon API Signing.More popular Music Management Software downloads

Version: Mp3tag 2.44
"Standalone tagger works with most formats"
Pros: Fine standalone tagger works with most formats. Works on MP3 and AAC (MP4) and handles embedding Album covers. Can handle multiple files, but not as batch (command line).
Cons: No command line (Batch) mode, but that is little used these days.
Summary: Great basic tagger for most formats of audio files.

"Powerful and free-- a winner"
Pros: Very flexible and can do sooo many things with little effort. I have a list of actions saved for various types of tag manipulation.
Cons: #1 con: no command line interface. Until iPods can speed up podcasts and not just audio books, I move all my podcasts to audio book. #2 con is the non-intuitive nature. Both the online help and scripting have a bit of a learning curve.
Summary: I've found nothing better, so despite the non-intuitive nature, this is one of my must have utilities. The manual would be better as a big single file so it can be searched and I'd love a command line interface. #1 on the wish list is for a comman... read more >>

Version: Mp3tag 2.44
"Mp3tag is missing a HUGE and obvious key feature!"
Pros: At first glance, Mp3tag is a very robust and useful music tagging program with tons of bells and whistles.
Cons: Unfortunately it lacks a huge feature that pretty much dooms it to being absolutely useless. While you can convert filenames to tags, and tags to filenames, there is no option to convert tags to tags.
Summary: Useful on the surface, but the omission of such a simple and useful feature makes Mp3tag virtually worthless. It can convert your music files tag every which way except for the one one that matters to me. And considering the plethora of ways that yo... read more >>
