No longer a fledgling upstart, Firefox 3 is full-featured, lightning fast, and an able foe for both the big-dog competitor Internet Explorer and competitors nipping at its heels. Firefox's killer add-ons remain strong, and the latest update makes version 3.5 about two times faster than version 3. However, competition is strong and it can no longer be said that Firefox is the fastest browser available.
Several notable improvements in the latest revamp keep Firefox abreast of current browsing tech. Along with Mozilla's new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine that renders Web applications faster on Firefox than ever before, there have also been improvements to the layout engine Gecko for faster page rendering. The new Private Browsing brings a feature to Firefox that competitors have had for a while: the capability to turn off cookie and history logs. Users also have more granular control over cookies, history, and bookmarks in version 3.5 via the redone Clear Recent History option under Tools. Geolocation courtesy of Google has been activated by default in Firefox, so that generic searches such as "city hall" will come closer to pegging the government offices nearest you.
Web developers should be excited about expanded support for HTML5 local storage, downloadable fonts, and native support for OGG-formatted embedded video. ICC profiles, SVG transforms, CSS media queries, native JSON support, and Web worker threads also get lots of love from v3.5. There's no doubt that Firefox 3.5 is a must-have, but it's an update that's more about keeping the browser current rather that blazing new trails.

Publisher's description
From Mozilla :Mozilla Firefox is a fast, full-featured Web browser. Version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2
"Good, but OSX CPU usage makes it almost un-useable."
Pros: Great add-ons/plugins. Standards compliant. Arguably the best browser for web development.
Cons: CPU usage regularly at 100%. Shutting down can take several minutes when a lot of tabs are open, with 100% CPU usage until shutdown completes.
Summary: With great add-ons like Firebug and Flashblock, I really don't want to give up this browser, but I'm fed up with CPU issues on 3.5.2 and just about ready to jump ship to Safari. I'll still use Firefox for web development as "Firebug" and "Web Devel... read more >>

Version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2
"CPU pig on Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6"
Pros: Highly HTML and CSS compliant. Great keyword customization allows you to type short character strings, like "mail" or "dict prestidigitation" to go to configured URLs.
Cons: Big CPU pig on Mac. This is a killer.
Summary: It hasn't been inevitable that Firefox 3.5.2 pegs the CPU meter for me, but it certainly consumes too much. I travel frequently on business and want to preserve battery life. I frequently shut down Firefox because it keeps the CPU consumption around... read more >>

Version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2
"3.5.2 seems to be a disaster on my macs"
Pros: It's my favorite browser on all platforms, the functionality you can get form plugins can't be beat.
Cons: This version is buggy, frequently freezes and pegs the CPU at 100%, requiring it to be force quit.
Summary: Don't upgrade, wait for the next version. (Or use a different browser for now.)
On the two PPC macs I've upgraded to FIrefox 3.5.2 (one Tiger, one Leopard), FIrefox is now mostly useless. It's only a matter of time before it pegs the CP... read more >> -

Version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2
Pros: Nothing special as compared to previous versions
Cons: The CPU usage is absolutely horrendous. Videos are basically impossible to watch. There is absolutely NO reason for a web browser to use 90%+ of the CPU and peg it at 100% most of the time.
Summary: I have been using Firefox on a Mac since ver. 1.5.x Presently, after using 3.5.2 for a few weeks, I am disgusted by the lack of performance and general bugginess of the product.
AND IT IS MUCH WORSE ON MY WINDOWS XP MACHINE.

Version: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2
Pros: Being a great browser up until 3.5.1.
Cons: The new 3.5.1 &.2 are acting like the old days of Norton. Request anything or another page and I have to wait until the whole screen flashes and then my mouse is free and operate.
Summary: Their is a delay and waiting period, both laptop with XP and this desktop with 2000 same delay. Makes my Embarq web mail slow as heck?????Just as if I was using Norton or McaFee 10 years ago?
