Mozilla Firefox, formerly known as Firebird, has not quite become a fully stable product, but it does quite a few things other browser makers might want to take note of. Much like its predecessors, the latest update from the Mozilla project stays close to common users. Its clean and uncluttered interface houses only the most necessary features, with the option to easily add customized toolbars. Firefox claims to be lightning-fast in every way. In our preliminary findings and superficial comparison, we didn't notice dramatic acceleration, so we can't prove or dispute that claim. What we do know is that the more we use Firefox, the more we like it. As with all Mozilla browsers, it conforms well to standards, so pages from almost any site load and function properly. Tabbed browsing lets you set your home page as a group of tabs or open an entire folder of bookmarks in tabs. Firefox also seamlessly blocks unwelcome pop-up advertisements without requiring the download of any additional software. Disregarding the occasional stability problem, this browser suits both personal and professional use. Watch the CNET video review of Mozilla Firefox:

Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1
Pros: Firefox is relatively fast - especially compared to Safari - and displays most web pages properly.
Cons: For a start, Firefox is just ugly. Even though there are a fair few skins out there, they only appeal if you like the garish. Unfortunately, there is no option for the sleek look of safari. But my real qualm about FF is the number of time pages inexplicably 'die.' What I mean is that for example I won't be able to type in a google search no matter how many times I refresh the page. Eventually, you have to close the window and start again - a real pain if you have a bunch of tabs open.

Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1
"Customization makes this browser surpass Opera and all others."
Pros: Unsurpassed customizability. Nearly as fast as Opera after customizing config. Excellent extensions with more inevitably to come. More customizable mouse gestures than Opera. Slickest looking browser (after customization). Very decent tab handling. But most of all, it's open-source: this is something that FF always has over other browsers. If there is something you wish it had, chances are good that someone else thought so too, and wrote an extension to do it. My browser feeds me weather, works with iTunes, blocks all Ads (not just popups), finds directions through MapQuest by highlighting and right clicking, saves my tabs in case of crash, and much more. Customization puts FF way over any other browser, and inches it past Opera's speed, which is a sacrifice for its handling of only 'standards'.
Cons: Not as fast as Opera, even after customizing the about:config.
