Although it delivers less than it promises, there's no denying that this program works very well as an automatic flash video downloader.
Moyea FLV Downloader's interface includes a very basic tree directory with only two options: Downloading and Downloaded. You can view either category in a spreadsheet-style window to the right. A toolbar holds all of the functions for operating this app.
During installation, there's an option to add a player. It's a minor quibble, but this is a primary function promised by the publisher and it should come with no extra steps. A converter is promised as well, but it turns out that when you click that option on the program's pop-up settings window, it takes you to the publisher's Web site. Unlike the downloader and player, the converter isn't free. As an automatic downloader, though, this program couldn't be easier to use. From the main interface, simply choose New and then the Start Recording button. As soon as a site starts playing a flash video file, the program will grab it and start downloading. Files are saved to a Downloaded FLV folder, a directory created during install. Unfortunately, files are saved only with a numeric file name. You can enter a text name in Settings, but it will apply to every file you download (with a number to differentiate) until you uncheck this option.
The automatic download worked like a charm, but the same can't be said for the program's other method. The program adds an IE plug-in and an icon will appear each time the program detects a video playing. It did detect files, but all efforts to download files this way failed.
Most download managers don't come with a player, and even though this one was pretty simple, it worked well. When you right click a file in the Downloaded listing, there are a few options to play and rename the file and the player appears in the lower half of the interface. The player controls are basic and familiar to anyone who's used a media player.
Even with the malfunctioning plug-in, this is a very handy program. If only the publishers would remove the reference to the converter, users would feel like they're getting more instead of being cheated out of stated functionality.
