Version: Movies Database 1.15
"Sets out to do very little and can't even do it; encumbered by useless features"
Pros: Nothing. It strikes out in every category.
Cons: Why do programmers go about creating their own controls and icons when Microsoft has adequate tools that don't look so amateur? This is another exammple of when you break down what this software actually does--keeping a list of your movies for you--it would be easier to just do it yourself in a database program or Excel. It seems that these movie db developers think that seeing the movie's DVD packaging JPG (which takes up 1/5 of the screen real estate) is why we would pay $30 for this junk. Seriously, how does this help us? Do you need to see the dvd cover for Titanic? Is it as important as being able to find all romance movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio? No. And you won't be able to perform such a query in this program. If you can, then I was unable to find out how. Deleting records is nearly impossible. Grey background for the main screen, black background for the contact edit screen; how's that for consistency? Right-clicking refreshes the screen; in fact, clicking on most areas in the screen will cause a top-to-bottom refresh of the screen in a big fat BLINKETY-BLINK, so you may have an epileptic fit after using this thing. Note to programmers: imbedding a browser in your software is a bad idea. IE or Mozilla have done it far better than you ever could (with buttons, too!), so please, just open a session of my default browser instead of going to a webpage in your program. The Close Window button (the x in the corner) is greyed out or disabled for most screens, so you have to find the magic close button, wherever it may be, to go back a screen (and you will get a dialog box asking if you're sure you want to "revert"). This software has a lot of superfulous features that only yencumber the UI. The software takes a very long time to install; it's probably installing some proprietary tools the developer bought--he paid too much. I could go on, but let's say that managing this database is a full-time job and the rewards are non-existent unless you like looking at pictures of DVD packaging.
