A full-featured disk management utility is something most experienced Windows users need, whether it's to add and format a new hard drive, configure a USB drive, or copy partitions or whole drives and move them to new drives. MiniTool Partition Wizard is a powerful but easy-to-use partition manager that does all that and much more, and it's free, too. It supports FAT, NTFS, EXT, and Linux Swap file systems, and all hard-disk types recognized by Windows, including RAID arrays. It's also compatible with both MBR and GPT partition tables. Partition Wizard supports hard disks of up to 2TB in capacity and up to 32 individual drives. New features include one-step partition extending and improved partition splitting as well as Windows 8 compatibility.

Partition Wizard's user interface is good-looking and also intuitively configured, with a layout resembling many similar tools, including Disk Manager. Bar graphs and tables displayed the capacity and status of all our system's drives, including its three logical partitions and USB thumbdrive. Even if you're familiar with disk-managing utilities, it's not a bad idea to start with Partition Manager's Help file, which does a great job of explaining each feature. And this program has features, starting with four Wizards: Copy Partition, Copy Disk, Partition Recovery, and Free Data Recovery. Each of these tools walks you through the steps necessary to perform these tricky operations. Speaking of Operations, Partition Wizard lists no fewer than 21 of them, everything from Align Partition to Surface Test. We could format, delete, copy, merge, split, explore, hide, and wipe partitions; set Active and Logical partitions; change serial numbers; and much more. You can also create a bootable CD that lets you use Partition Wizard during reboot to perform operations that you can't do when Windows is loaded.

Step 1 when making changes to your disk drives is always backing up your system, especially if you're making changes to your primary drive. All the tools we tried worked well, including the Move/Resize Partition Wizard, which let us set the partition by dragging it into place. MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition is a keeper.

"Absolute Nightmare v8.1"

July 01, 2014  |  By Concernius

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

The program installed and opened.

Cons

There is absolutely no in depth trouble shooting for this program , it assumes a series of basic UI problems like where's the button for this dadada, nothing for problems such as creating partitions on unallocated space, modifying status's to active, changing attributes, that after the process of application- don't apply regardless.

Summary

Not my cup of tea, hours of searching the internet looking for help on the problems with this program and all I can find is the website themselves praising its ease of use.

February 01, 2013  |  By DaKinger

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

Don't know of pros since it failed on my first use.

Cons

Destroyed RAID 1 Array

Summary

Stupidly tried extending a primary volume on RAID I array (Windows OS partition) and it BSOD'd and made the RAID fail. Unable to boot. Pretty much ruined my week.

Cons

Haven't find one.

Summary

This partition tool is absolutely the first choice for the hard disk partitioning. Great software, will recommend to my surrounding people.

"Awesome tool for expanding disk partition"

December 20, 2012  |  By mr4523mr

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

Easy installation; simple interface; easily and flawlessly expanded existing partition

Cons

The interface could be a little slicker looking, but am I really gonna complain about a free program that works as promised? Absolutely not!

Summary

This is an awesome tool! I have a RAID 1 configuration (two mirrored drives) which I partitioned as C: and D: drives. I have been stressing for months over the fact that C: was running out of space. (I had even begun installing programs on D: to keep C: from filling up completely.) The Microsoft method of expanding a partition sounded so ridiculously complicated that I had no confidence I could pull it off. (I'm computer savvy, but not a certified geek.) I started Googling to see if anyone makes a tool to expand a partition and stumbled on MiniTool Partition Wizard. The home version was free and had gotten such great reviews from CNet and others that I figured I would give it a try. I installed it, set it to expand the C: partition by 50%, clicked Apply -- and held my breath. My computer re-booted and, before Windows loaded, Partition Wizard performed its magic. I watched nervously as it told me it was copying files, moving data, changing the size of partitions, etc. (It has a great interface which tells you exactly what it's doing and how far into the process it is.) Once Partition Wizard was finished, Windows started normally. I got a a Windows message saying that new hardware had been installed and I needed to reboot (which I thought was a little odd), so I clicked Restart and once again held my breath. Windows re-started normally, the partition sizes had been changed and (knock on wood) everything seems to be working just fine. For those of you who like to keep system files on a separate partition from data files (as I do), this program is amazing: you no longer have to worry that you are stuck with the original partition size for all time. While I would not mess around changing partition sizes on a daily basis, it is great to know that this product is available and works as promised if the need to expand a partition does arise!

"DO NOT USE!!"

December 20, 2012  |  By BD1995

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

Nothing springs to mind

Cons

Destroyed my C drive
Made PC unusable
Resulted in extensive recovery issues

Summary

I mistakenly trusted this program to extend an ailing C drive into unallocated space.

The result has been an Unmountable Boot loss of access to work files and, with no XP Installation disk, extensive recovery work to even get the PC back into a usable condition.

cheers for that.

"Don't even bother"

December 18, 2012  |  By noinipo

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

It doesn't kill anyone

Cons

Worthless piece of junk! Small and useless test version inticing you to buy the commercial version. But with so little fuctionality, I certainly woudn't trust them with my money!

Summary

Use EaseUS instead. I do.

Pros

looks nice.

Cons

"Exceptional partition management, copy, resize utility"

December 17, 2012  |  By xblkx

 |  Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6.1

Pros

I was a dedicated Partition Magic 8 user, but had no success with 1TB drives (endless errors... "Error #49 Write Fault", "Error #110", "BAD MBR", etc.)
I downloaded this utility to try to copy from a 500GB drive to the new 1TB drive's unpartitioned space, and then resize the new copy to the full size of the drive, like I'd used PM8 for, and it worked perfectly the first time.
Very intuitive user interface (I'm a computer professional), operations complete quickly, and it works and is maintained. I did not use the other features of the program, but had nothing but problems with new drives in older (circa 2005/2006) systems until I tried this utility.

Cons

Perhaps some improvements in English grammar, but definitely nothing that interferes with it operating correctly.
