Publisher's Description
From Microsoft:
Note: IE 5.5 SP1 features Active Setup (a 498K file), which requires that you maintain your Internet connection after you double-click ie5setup.exe. Active Setup will prompt you to choose among various IE packages; these range in size from 8.5MB to over 40MB, with a typical install of 15.4MB.
Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1 includes support for Dynamic HTML, Java, and the Channel Definition Format (CDF). An AutoSearch feature lets you choose your search engine and display search results in different ways. For example, you can choose to be redirected automatically to the best-matched site. In the History box, you can sort the list of sites by date, site, most visited, or the order visited. The AutoComplete feature displays a drop-down list of matching sites when you start to type a URL in the address bar. AutoComplete also works with Web forms, displaying a list of previous entries when you start to type in a field on a Web site. To automate login processes even further, you can also save usernames and passwords for particular sites. Internet Explorer offers 128-bit encryption and includes a Radio Toolbar, which allows you to listen to radio stations over the Internet as you browse. IE also allows you to select the default email, calendar, newsgroup, and HTML editors of your choice. You can even designate your Web-based email provider as the default email program.
Version 5.5 SP1, the latest in this Web browser line, includes the ability to apply Connection Manager as your default dialer when Dial-Up Networking is already installed, preview Web pages exactly as they'll appear when printed with Print Preview, and with improved support for DHTML and CSS, Web architects will appreciate the greater control over browser appearance and behavior. IE 5.5 SP1 also features additional support for the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL).

""The Download location page is damaged." - Microsoft"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit)
Pros
2013 - One can actually see images in IE 6 if you are going to use this Explorer in older MS operating Systems. In our current world IE4 to IE5.5 are now WORTHLESS! IE 6 is a functional Browser for the FAT32 or NT4/2000/XP Operating Systems by Microsoft.
Cons
2013 - IE6 is functional, IF you are some kind of masochist. This is REAL BLOATWARE, as is most MS products! If you use it for a little while it will c _ _ _ out on you.
Summary
If you are going to use some kind of multi-OS box, or just fiddle around with an older MS Operating Systems DO NOT use Explorer IE6. The other choices operate better than Explorer in the current Internet world. For example, Firefox 12, Opera 10.63, Netscape 9, and older Sea Monkey are more responsive and in my experience have better graphics than Explorer IE6. One cannot use Chrome w/ anything below Windows 2000 for NT, and also none of the FAT32 OS's.
MS Marketing understands that the only way one can spur sales on modern software is to make older software unusable. MS is a master at their art. -

Internet Explorer is a useable browser, but I would strongly recommend another browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox.

"Failure In Every Aspect"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
Nothing at all
Cons
Slow, ugly design, a million toolbars, and slow (Yes, I said it twice. It really is that slow)
Summary
It's the dumbest browser that Microsoft ever thought of.Need I say more?
-
"Absolute rubbish. Does not behave like a browser should"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
The Close button
Cons
its existance

"My favourite browser since i bought my PC(with IE 6)"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
Everything is very fast, its even faster than google chrome. User interface is great, adress bar is awesome - everything is well organised
Cons
Reputation - Many people have problem with IE because their windows is in terrible shape (and that's the reason why they start hating IE)
Summary
In my opinion IE is the best browser, i've been using it since version 6 and it has never dissapointed me.(sorry for bad English I am from Serbia)
-

"it's total crap"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
let's see, during the few minutes it works before the message "internet explorer has stopped working" it does what you would expect from a browser
Cons
it stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working and stops working
Summary
it's complete crap, get the picture? Total waste of hard drive space, and my experience with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit so far isn't much better. I never had a problem with 32bit. Microsoft has gotten so dang fat and lazy they don't even try to make a product work right until they've sold millions of copies and people start to complain

"JUST RESET IT'S SETTINGS IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH 'IE'"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
Internet explorer is a good browser with simple interface.
Cons
It seems to me that every program which I install wants to add something to internet explorer , and those toolbars and 'right click add-ons' are internet explorer's ''killers''. For me - everything which wants to add something permanently to my browser without asking is a malware ,and programs which does not warn you about those add-ons should not be installed .
Summary
Do reset to you're internet settings periodically , and you will have no trouble with it ...JUST GO TO - CONTROL PANEL - INTERNET OPTIONS - ADVANCED - RESET - and restart the browser after that, then you can change you're home page etc...
hello dograg,
Updated on Aug 24, 2012
I think that you should turn automatic updates on,maybe that makes problems with your IE,and uninstall all the ''system optimizers''-if you got any -except CC cleaner . And reset IE like I had explained in review. -
"Bad version.... keep your current IE version."
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
There are no pros.
Cons
They took away all of the comfort (what I was used to) and gave me a screen devoid of quick links. Additionally, videos don't load correctly, many of my work-based applications/websites crash or appear strange. PDFs load as if they're 8-bit. It's a really terrible version. I even had to move to chrome to submit this review. No wonder it's gotten such bad ratings.
I've gone to using Chrome exclusively when I was a pretty devout IE user.Summary
Just a bad version.

"Fast, Stable and Secure"
Version: Microsoft Internet Explorer (32-bit) 8
Pros
Fast, Stable and Secure
Cons
None that I can think of...
Summary
Great browser. Much better than IE 8. Much better than Chrome...
Chrome sucks... it is an over-hyped and over-rated system memory hog... and isn't as secure as many seem to think. Use a different browser.
