Despite a glut of free player/encoders, it's tough to find one that meets our expectations. Formerly known as Sound DB, MediaMonkey has excellent library-management tools that keep the largest digital music collections well organized. Stir that up with integrated CD and DVD burning, a stellar interface, a full-featured encoder, and the ability to sync with portable audio devices such as the iPod, and you have a pretty compelling product.
Upon first launch, the program scans your drive for supported digital media files to add to the library. Files are sorted based on their ID3 tags, and the helpful Auto-Rename and Auto-Tag From Filename features keep untagged tracks from falling through the cracks. Party mode locks down your library while still allowing people to request songs. Auto DJ plays selections from your library even when there are no requests in the queue. Third-party plug-ins are available from the site if you want to tinker with the playback and encoding engine or add additional sound-processing effects. The interface is well designed, with clean, colorful icons throughout.
Considering the overall polish of this application, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything you don't like. Although it's definitely geared toward managing extensive collections, just about anyone will appreciate the comprehensive feature set. For $20, MediaMonkey Gold adds advanced features such as sleep, scripting, previewing, and on-the-fly file conversion when syncing with a portable device.

Version: MediaMonkey 2.5.5
"The best of the media players"
Pros: It's a full fledged media player that never ceases to amaze me. It had everything I want (even though there is a few of the "pay to get" stuff that would be nice) and it runs perfectly on my slowest computer. It has the look of iTunes and the feel of Windows Media Player 10, but more refined and with more features. It's like the developer took the best from all the great media players: Winamp, Windows Media, iTunes, and Rhapsody, and turned it into one great package. iTunes usually has a large load time and is pretty slow moving on my 800mhz machine, but MediaMonkey is like its namesake: a fast, nimble program that does what iTunes can do, and quicker. And for my ever-growing music collection, it's a must. I can't recommend it enough, just get it now. It's only 5 mb after all.
Cons: As mentioned, a few helpful features are buy-version only, and it doesn't scan and update your tracks as well as Windows Media Player 11.
But all in all, this program is stunning. It's high feature set is coupled with a very low bunch of system requirements, and even the little things are everywhere. It is, without a doubt, the best free media player out there.

Version: MediaMonkey 2.5.5
Pros: free burner, ability to level off the songs burned, able to turn into another video player with extension, customizable skins. unlike itunes it doesnt require using another product ((like the bulkware quicktime)).
Cons: i guess if u like to have to install more software than just this that would b a downside. this is the reason i left itunes, it saves you over 100mbs if u think about it.

Version: MediaMonkey 2.5.5
"Best way to keep a tiddy library"
Pros: All the great stuff in iTunes minus the processor hogging. Its direct search on amazon.com is a GREAT aid to correctly tag your MP3's
Cons: Doesn't export the library in a format that iTunes can import properly, but then again, with this program, there's no need for iTunes. The interface could be nicer, still, the screenshots from the next version look way better. Also, advanced playlists are only available in the paid version, whereas in iTunes they're free, but you get the sleep timer, which is nice.

Version: MediaMonkey 2.5.5
"The only jukebox program that can manage a large library"
Pros: * Can handle a library of thousands and thousands of songs quickly, effortlessly
* Plays and converts songs between a wide range of formats, including mp3, wma, ogg and FLAC. No other jukebox supports more.
* Can utilize common Winamp input and output plugins
* Regular updates from the developers, with new features added every release
* Interface makes it easy to locate tracks in your library, view (and sort by) any attribute, move your library around on your hard drive or network, convert between file formats, edit tag information and create playlists. MediaMonkey literally does it all - I can't think of any feature it's missing. It'll even synch with an iPod, plus with several other portable players.
* You can even couple it with Apple's AirPort Express and a free plugin to playback music wirelessly over your home stereo system.
Cons: * Makes every other product, including offerings from major players like Apple (iTunes) and Microsoft (Windows Media Player) look like junk.
