Comprehensive but cluttered, Media Catalog Studio Lite has an interface that delivers on most fronts but could use a makeover. At the outset, the program offers to automatically scan your computer, including your CD-ROM drive, for audio files. This task is performed elegantly, capturing all relevant information from file tags. The abundance of genres and subfolders makes it possible to file a single song across a variety of categories, which some users may appreciate and others may find too confusing. A recent and welcome addition to the program is support for Apple MP4/M4A files. The latest version adds a simple media player as well. Experienced users are likely to find the free Media Catalog Studio Lite useful, although others may prefer a more straightforward app.Publisher's description

Version: Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9
Cons: I'd say that the database only holding 5 discs is a limitation. This is not freeware! I have 600 discs to catalog, not 5!

Version: Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9
"Advanced tool for media collections"
Pros: Works with many audio and video file formats, understands tags, powerful search features.
Cons: I bit cluttered at the first look, but then it is just perfect.

Version: Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9
Pros: I didn't have any problem activating the program on two of my Vista machines, so I don't believe yeowzuhx3 is serious about that. Besides, the software is really cool.
Cons: The lite version is limited to 5 discs, but it can process all files on the hard drive.

Version: Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9
"Don't expect much help with large collections"
Pros: Works OK with 2-3 albums on the free version
Cons: The Paid version doesn't save library or even recognizes the license code on Vista. After several Emails back and forth, I realize that they will never return my money and therefore I deem the as a certified rip off. Maybe it'll work in XP.
Summary: I indicated Vista in my search criteria. If nothing else, this is 20th century technology trying to pass itself off as 21st century stuff. It won't work on Wine either and nor does it work in 7 Beta. Steer Clear of this one.

Version: Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9
Pros: I like almost everything about this program. It is database-based, reads tags of all audio files, you can search for anything in any tag field. It is possible to find a song by a phrase!
Cons: Well, a few improvements would be great, but in general it is pretty good.
