Even the most advanced antispyware security can't guarantee your computer's safety, because most programs scan your site for digital nasties after they've already taken root. This ingenious Firefox extension warns you about covert spyware and browser-hijack attempts as you visit a site.
SiteAdvisor operates as an unobtrusive signal in your browser interface, turning green if the site is safe, yellow if it's suspect, and red if it senses threats or annoyances. The same coding system applies to Yahoo and Google search results, inserting a red, yellow, or green icon next to each link. Clicking these icons provides full diagnostics of the sites' threats, including links to other suspect sites, high spam counts, and the number of dangerous downloads.
We also liked the URL highlighter, which displays site rankings directly from your search engine, helping deflect drive-by installs that may initiate as soon as you type a URL. In our tests, SiteAdvisor turned out accurate and reliable results, and though it doesn't have a wide array of features, we urge any regular Firefox user to try this no-cost extension.

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox
"A truly useful tool that's well worth downloading."
Pros: I was looking for Dr.Who dvd's when I thought I was at a site for downloading old episodes. It was at that moment I noticed my site advisor go red. Upon reading the notice I found that the site could be bogus, and quickly left it. I don't know all the details on how this application works, all I know is that it does. Amazingly so far it's free so get it while you can.
Cons: None so far.

"Why cure when you can prevent??"
Pros: Today computing is all about safety. However, all the major companies seem to think about spyware in terms of deleting the spyware AFTER you've been infected, or stopping it as it tries to install. This ingenious piece of software acts as a forewarner. It tells you whats coming. Before you even load the infected site, it will warn you. It has "safe" "dangerous" and "neutral" markers, next to each result in any google search term you make. And it has a little bar at the bottom of a page telling you the safety of the current site. Very very good.
Intergrates seemlessly with firefox, and really isnt that hard to install. D/l it, save it. THen go to file in firefox, and click open file. Then open the file.

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox
Pros: It does what it promises. Well, if you are a safe internet rider you will not use this much often. However, this utility is specially useful when you google and when some search results look suspicious. The site advisor not only gives you safety stats but also a network of websites the original site is linked to.
Amazingly light app. (ofcourse the results are online...so not a surprise really)
Cons: Really none. Its a light little app. which sits quietly....

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox
Pros: Sits quietly in the corner doing its job, and turns red if a problem shows up. Lets you look up the reasons it thinks a site is dodgy.
Cons: Yes, may download as an XPI file, unknown to Windows - to install it, open it from within Firefox using "File/Open File" on the menu.
