A good app makes tasks easier, and this encryption/decryption tool does just that. Max PC Safe's well-organized interface takes only seconds for experienced users to figure out. Novice users will find that the thorough Help file answers their questions. Operating this app is as simple as choosing a file or folder from the right side viewing pane. The left side tree menu makes it a snap to quickly open directories. The colorful, clearly-labeled toolbar presents all commands, but Explorer users may prefer Max PC Safe's context menu encrypt and decrypt options.
The program automatically performs some steps to simplify the user experience. Encrypted files and folders keep their names, but the extension is changed to .enx. The source file is automatically deleted after encryption. We liked the additional security option to mask typed passwords, but it is easily disabled through a check box.
While some programs give users the option to choose an encryption level, Max PC Safe takes a different approach. The more secure you want to make a file, the more times you go through the process of encrypting. Each time a file is encrypted, it gains an additional .enx extension. Decryption is just a matter of decrypting a file the same number of times it was encrypted. Each time you encrypt a file or folder, you can use a different password, making it harder and harder to open secured files.
The short five-day trial could be a downside, but this app's ease of use negates that issue. Max PC Safe unistalls easily, but requires a system restart to complete removal. We recommend this simple tool for any user looking for easy file and folder encryption.
