"Great product for the professional film maker"

    November 04, 2012   |   By DonFranks2010

Version: Magix Video Pro X 4.0

    Pros

Very robust; excellent interface; great features; outstanding value for the money (as compared to equivalent professional video programs)

    Cons

The learning curve is steep at first, but there are numerous user boards available to get tons of help from other users

    Summary

MVP X4 has two monitor screens. The value of this wasn't clear until I actually started working on my projects. Being able to view photos, movies, effects, etc. in the second screen is an amazing benefit. I quickly got spoiled and dependent on that second screen.

It includes numerous transitions and effects, so this product can be used to make movies, or those photo/video combination projects with music in the background. It's quick and easy to create the moving camera effects on photos and even videos.

The Project Folder is a great idea. All project objects (photos, music files, movie clips, etc.) can get pulled into that
Project Folder, which means after you locate a bunch of objects to be potentially used in the project, you never have to hunt for them again. Also, if you have an edited clip (for example) that you want temporarily removed from the project, but not lost, just drag it into the Project Folder to be grabbed back later.

The Timeline Mode interface has the items you will click the most in obvious and logical locations, even on a large monitor with tons of desktop space. It's a pleasure to use.

The sound track features are robust and include everything you need to record and edit your sound track, including a virtual mixer and mastering suite. To be honest, however, if you want to actually create a multichannel music project, while it can be done in MVP X4, you would be better served to create that in Magix Samplitude Music Studio and then import the finished product into MVP X4.

I have the Boxed version of MPV X4, but there is also a download version available. I typically use download versions for Magix software purchases since, to my knowledge, there isn't a difference once the product is installed. The boxed version also comes with a printed manual, which is a great read, but the same manual is available as a PDF file in the Magix folder after the program is installed. I would guess the download version includes the same PDF version of the manual; an absolute must-read; it made getting started in MVP X4 way quicker for me.

    Installation - Boxed version
Install very easy and consistent with other MAGIX program installers. Very intuitive with no issues or difficult questions to answer.
After installing, I went to the Help menu and ran the upgrader which found an update. The update installed easily. I then downloaded and installed the one available online Video Effect Plug-in (again, from the Help menu).
I also installed the three integrated programs that come with MVP-X4:
NewBlueFX Light Blends (required S/N provided on MVP-X4 DVD cover)
Red Giant Magic Bullet Quick Looks
    Digieffects Phenomena Particle Effects
These three installs required a one-time, free activiation which happened online without issue. I haven't really used them yet, but it's worth noting that they come with MVP X4.

If you want to know more about the actual technology and features, just read any review on MEP 17 or greater, it's pretty much all the same. The biggest differences are noted above (among others I didn't mention) and the robustness of MVP X4 to run complex projects without crashing, glitching, and behaving in ways that cause one to utter words one would never say in mixed company.

Lastly, if you've not purchased and used a Magix program in the last several years, you don't know about their customer support. I've only needed to contact Magix directly a few times and always got contacted back very quickly and the support was great. Better yet, Magix programs are used around the world and there are numerous user based support sites and user groups that are easily found online. This includes Magix's own support site, which is free to register and use. I typically find whatever answer I'm looking for using those resources rather than going to Magix support directly.

"It does all and more. I wish I had the funds to buy."

    February 25, 2012   |   By whatever40

Version: Magix Video Pro X 4.0

    Pros

User friendly if you take the time and read the instructions. The drag and drop interface makes this so easy to put on the tracks and/or take off. Interacts with various video and photo formats which makes editing video filmed on different cameras very easy to mess together.

    Cons

No one is using it a lot probably because of the price tag, therefore it takes a bit to learn the tricks of the program. The price tag is very high for me, so after the trial period, unless I get some extra cash I wont use it anymore.

    Summary

If you are serious about editing video and really want a program with bells and whistles plus ease of use, try before you buy. You will really like this program. I have the Magix Music Maker and I really like it, that is why I came to them for a video program. I know some reviews for their other stuff has not be favorable, everyone has their own opinion. If anyone wants to see if I am real you can email me at quepeazweb@gmail.com. If you want help me buy this program, I do great work in web design and video production.
