"good, sophisticated program"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Powerful program
Cons
Not for beginners
-
"This is a toy"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Downloaded pretty fast
Cons
No time code
Summary
Probably fine for 'tube videos. Nothing "professional" or "plus" about it.
The constant crashes may be attributable to incompatibility with my Win7 x64, hard to say. Behaves bizarrely. Projects do not save and/or save wherever the program cannot find them 2 seconds later.
Updated on Oct 1, 2011
Deleted "takes" reinsert themselves... the list goes on and I've only used it a few hours and produced exactly nothing.
My rating is 0, a real POS. -
"Crashes when initiallizing a project"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
nice interface and user tools
Cons
constantly crashes when loading a saved work. Deletes the work you are trying to load. (lost) ALL data from our China adoption videos...Thanks MAGIX... your application has magically ruined my files.... we really appreciate that!
Summary
you are better off using the editor that comes with XP, or adobe.
Save your money and buy a more stable application. I had high hopes for this app when I bought it, but I'm suffering from a severe case of buyer's remorse. Magix has lost our business for good. -
"My version is very good"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Ease of use
Cons
No Commnet
Summary
I have NOT downloaded the latest vesrion, I have Magix EditPro 14 plus (version 7.5.2.11). This is a marvellous programme, far superior to competitors. HOWEVER, it would appear that my version is no longer supported and I fail to see why I should spend more good money when I am entirely satisfied with what I have.

"Beware - Does Not Completely Uninstall"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Nice Interface with useful features
Cons
Does not uninstall all of the programs it puts on your computer. So far I have found 3 programs it left after uninstalling it. It also will not use codecs such as those for 5.1 sound that are already installed on your system.
Summary
Without the ability to use all features their trial program is useless. Couple that with the extra programs it installs, which it installs without asking or even saying it is, makes this a very dubious choice and best left alone.
I could never recommend software that behaves this way, nor would I ever use it. -
"Version 16 Works Better"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Faster rendering, easy audio controls for mixing, editing screen was enlarged from previous version.
Cons
With this version, I had trouble getting imported VOB files to sync voice to video. Tech support expires fairly quickly. Editing screen was made larger but is still small.
Summary
I have version 16 which for me works better; no issues of video sync. Don't spend your money on V17 stay with the 16.

"Fantastic Program"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
You get a lot for the money
Cons
Long time to install
Summary
I FOUND USING Magix's Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus to be very friendly and made me look like a pro. The ease of editing my video and inserting some still shots was great. Putting the titles with animation really made them look good and choosing from hundreds of transitions was a breeze, all though using key frames was a little tricky. Using one of the effects I was able to enhance parts of the video that was too dark also changed the color of certain clips. Adding some background music and chapter markers made the finished video very nice. Using the burn section with ready made backgrounds made the disk look very professional. The burning to disk was all automatically accomplished.

"Works great with GoPro HD mp4 files"
Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro 17.0 Plus
Pros
Can drag and drop GoPro .mp4 files into the editor
Trimming the video is supersimple and intuitive
No additional file conversion steps needed (ie, mp4 to avi)
Lots of HD output optionsCons
I'm still playing with the trial version so I may not have uncovered problems or idiosyncrasies.
You do need to do some acrobatics to get 'direct to youtube' uploads working but this is mainly the fault of youtube/google.Summary
I've never heard of this company before but the search for a quick and easy way to work with the .mp4 files that GoPro HD saves in led me to this. Other programs (movie maker, etc) I found require a conversion step to .avi before the video editor can use the files....that's kind of a pain in the ass so when I stumbled on Magix I decided to give it a try.
I normally HATE working with video because there's so much detailed crap you have to mess with but this program is pretty straightforward and I started using it without even reading the instructions (drop file on timeline, trim ends, add effects, add title, output in desired format, etc etc.).
To allow the program to do direct uploads to youtube I did have to login to google accounts, then setup a program access process which is WAY more complicated than it needs to be. It requires 2-step authentication turned on so go through that process if you want to use this function. Otherwise I've had the program about a week and so far so good, I'll be buying it in the next couple of weeks unless I uncover something seriously broken.....in which case I'll log back in and tell you about it!
Right now it basically does what I want it to do with a minimum of effort. That's all I ask. -
