"Was decent - no longer supported/updated"

December 19, 2014  |  By Batt4Christ

 |  Version: MacScan 2.9.4

Pros

Use to work - use to be updated. Use to be simple.

Cons

The developer hasn't updated in over two years.

Summary

What happened? Web site still looks functional - but no news or update info. It also appears they will still accept your money! Hello... No update in over 2 years makes this not worth a penny.

"Does not pick up the malware Trovi"

November 11, 2014  |  By canmovies

 |  Version: MacScan 2.9.4

Pros

Easy to load.

Cons

Does not pick up the malware Trovi or the banner adds being placed on pages on Firefox or Google Chrome.

Summary

I was going to buy this software if the demo were to remove Trovi and the software which accompanies it for creating banner ads and pop up adds, but MacScan was not that thorough, and browser continue to be buggy. Not impressed.

"Great tech support"

November 19, 2012  |  By aphilpotts

 |  Version: MacScan 2.9.4

Pros

Quick response to problems when 2.9.4 update refused to accept my serial number. The tech team came up with just the right solution.

Cons

None that I know of.

Summary

As an on-demand program, this software is great for housekeeping. It works when I want it to and not when I don't.

Updated on Nov 19, 2012

When 2.9.4 update wouldn't accept my serial number, the tech team came up with just the right solution. As an on-demand program, this software is great for housekeeping, on when I want it, and off when I don't.

"Great technical support"

October 26, 2012  |  By majbpc

 |  Version: MacScan 2.9.4

Pros

MacScan stopped working on my MacBook Pro for some unknown reason. I sent a report to tech support and they responded within a day. The first suggested fix didn't work, but after I emailed them with more details they quickly came back with a new fix that worked perfectly. No hassles, no problems, excellent support. In addition, I like MacScan and I believe is does a fine job helping protect my Mac from some of the bad stuff out there.

Cons

No cons at all.

"1 star review is totally false and should be deleted"

March 23, 2012  |  By Alinstpete

 |  Version: MacScan 2.6

Pros

Easy to use and install, effective in finding tracking cookies and spyware, updates its cookies and blacklist frequently, software updates provided at no cost after initial purchase.

Cons

May not be strong enough for today's often evil internet kingdom so other measure may be necessary

"simple, routine computer scan program"

April 02, 2011  |  By nostromo74

 |  Version: MacScan 2.7

Pros

Finds tracking cookies, extended trial period, periodic updates available for free, simple and uncomplicated.

Cons

None, though perhaps it's not quite worth $30 for what it does.

Summary

I've used MacScan for a number of months on my Mac Mini and I am satisfied with it. Each time it runs, it finds tracking cookies and allows me to eliminate them. It has yet to find anything else on my computer, though it apparently scans for many types of malware. So I guess I should be thankful I have a clean Mac! It has a 30-day trial but i used it for several months before I voluntarily purchased it. The fact that it consistently identified tracking cookies and scanned for everything else and includes updates (though you have to manually update it) and they did not force me to purchase it after 30 days (my "trial" lasted several months) convinced me it was worth purchasing. It seems like an honest, well-intended malware scan product for the Mac. I do not know of many such programs so I was pleased to discover this and happy to purchase it.

 |  Version: MacScan 2.6

Pros

Nothing. It hijacks your computer.

Cons

It hijacks your computer and should be removed from CNET downloads.

Summary

The design of the user interface is to force users to purchase rather than test the product.
