YouTube hosts millions of free videos, including tons of tunes; so much that it's sometimes easier to download and save your favorites. You have many choices when it comes to free tools that can do the job. One of the best we've seen is MP3 Rocket, a tool that can search for, find, download, convert, and save video and music files from YouTube. It handles most video formats, including HD, and audio formats, too. It also shows online TV programming, plays 'Net radio, and even accesses lots of games.
MP3 Rocket's tabbed interface involves an integrated media player along with social media links in its bottom panel and a menu bar accessing the usual controls and options as well as Skins, Chat, and Tools. The main view is tabbed for Music, Video, Convert, My Files, Watch TV, Radio, and Games. The first tab, Music, shows two fields, a Search field labeled Music and another labeled Video to MP3 Converter where you can directly enter video URLs.
We typed in a search guaranteed to turn up a specific tune, and MP3 Rocket opened a new tab with our search results ranked by Popularity and displaying Time, Format, and other data in a list view. MP3 Rocket turned up page after page of results. While only a few were specific, we like seeing the near misses listed, too, since sometimes interesting things turn up. Clicking Download MP3 produced a download dialog that let us set a destination folder, audio format, and bit rate, and even copy the data to iTunes. The dialog also displays any associated image file and enables tag data editing. When everything was set, we clicked OK, and MP3 Rocket displayed our tune in its download queue, from which you can also preview and download files directly. Our song downloaded very quickly and played normally. The Video and Converter tabs offered similar functionality, and the TV, Radio, and Game extras are nice to have.
While MP3 Rocket's extras certainly add to its appeal, doing a quick, easy, and accurate job of grabbing and converting YouTube audio and video is its forte. Put MP3 Rocket on your short list of YouTube downloaders.

"Installer failed and no tech support available"

Pros
It's a great tool. I used it for a year before an upgrade was pushed to me.
Cons
The upgrade uninstalled my working version and then didn't reinstall properly. Even the old version won't install properly anymore. This isn't their fault; I'm sure something's wrong with my computer. But there is no technical support available without purchasing the pro version. THAT's my beef.
Summary
Great product, but when upgrade fails, there's no tech support available

Pros
Had an older version of MP3 Rocket when I had XP and easily downloaded songs.
Quick and efficient, allowed you to listen to your song immediately.
Also had updates.Cons
Currently, cannot get MP3 Rocket to work after 7 or 8 downloads. You click on the desktop icon and it wants to know if it can download on your hardrive. Click yes and nothing happen. So you uninstall a BUNCH of ADD-ONS as well as uninstalling MP3 Rocket.
Summary
If you can get the download to work, very efficient music download site.
Otherwise, the way it is now, I give it a terrible rating. -

It downloads well with Windows 7 or earlier.
Cons
This software is NOT compatible with Windows 8 and why CNET has it listed that it is is dumb-founding. There is no online support for MP3 rocket unless you pay for it. It downloads passed 100% and then fails to convert and transfer to Windows Media. This software is the very same as Youtube Downloader in disguise. From what I can tell there are no programs available to download any music at all with Windows 8.
Summary
I would stay away from MP3 Rocket and YouTube Downloader...they are the same program with different titles and they are not compatible with Windows 8. In fact, like I said before, there are NO programs available online to download music for Windows 8 and the ones that claim to be either don't work or are loaded with malware/adware/spyware or both.

Pros
Does what they claim, downloads YouTube videos and converts them to MP3 at rocket speeds. Good selection of free movies, radio stations and games. Good over all converter and downloader. Did I mention that it is free.
Cons
The movies are ad supported.

None it used to work fine on my other operating systems but will not work on Windows 8.

Constantly freezes up. Completely re-installed twice. Still does the same thing. Completely removed period. They should tell consumers it doesn't work with Windows 8
Summary
I used to use this program with Windows XP pro, Vista, Windows 7 and it worked superior on those operating systems. I believe the problem with Windows 8 is that Windows uses their own version of Java script called cloud which will not work with MP3 Rocket. Mp3 Rocket uses Java. Iv'e tried and downloaded Java but it still wont work.
I don't understand why they don't warm consumers that it is not compatible with Windows 8. -
