This Firefox extension uses a Wi-Fi Positioning System to perform searches based on your location; however, we found that its primary selling point needs some work.
Loki's toolbar is simple, with a pleasant-looking user interface. It features a publisher shortcut button and search functionality powered by Google. When we clicked on the Find Me button, it pulled up our general location, but not our exact location. There's a button for fine-tuning your location, but it's just an option to enter your address. Once we did so, our location came up on the Loki map. From the toolbar, you can send an SMS and an e-mail with your location in the message. There's a shortcut button for a geotag, but were not sure what it does since clicking on it returned nothing. The Channels drop-down menu includes weather, traffic, entertainment, and dining information all tailored to your location. A few of the sites were slow to load, but each channel pulled up information close to our location.
You may have to help Loki find you, but this freeware is pretty good at finding local destinations and information.
Publisher's description
From Skyhook Wireless :Loki is a location-based search and location-sharing browser toolbar. Leveraging Skyhook's Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) to automatically define a user's exact physical location, this customizable toolbar turns a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop into a 'virtual GPS' device and integrates location into your Internet search and communications. You can customize Loki to find content that you are most interested in and with one click instantly find the nearest jazz club, directions to the best Thai restaurant, find the cheapest gas prices in town and pinpoint your exact location on a map. You can even share that location with others directly from the toolbar by email or SMS.
Version 2.0.3 includes implementation of Javascript API, a simple interface, and minimized toolbar.

Version: Loki 2.0.3
Pros: Not sure why the developers don't mention on their website that this is US only but, to save you time, take it from me (and their forum): does not work outside US
Cons: No chance to test as doesn't work outside USA.

Version: Loki 2.0.3
Pros: None. Cannot find it without the Windows menu search tool.
Cons: Does not work at all. I only hope this is not a gateway for problems to enter my new, clean Acer.
Summary: Where did anyone get the idea that this is good stuff? It is not even poor. I wasted half a day trying to install and then find it. It lists as being in programs folder. Not listed in programs menu. Something very fishy here.
