NOTE: Downloaded to verify results. There's a problem with the listed publisher on download.com, which says it's Microsoft. During install, however, Google Inc. shows up next to the software title. In Firefox, when you right click on the add-on in the tools menu, it says it was created by Liz Looney.

Some Firefox plug-ins are more useful than others, but there's absolutely no value to a misleading browser extension that lists several different publisher names. As the name suggests, Load Time Analyzer is supposed to give you information about Web-page load times. Instead, it takes up browser space and gives you nothing in return.

We were suspicious from the beginning when the plain toolbar was added. The publisher is listed as Microsoft, and they typically don't produce such poorly designed programs or tools. During the standard Firefox plug-in installation process, Google Inc. shows up next to the add-on's title. When we headed to the Firefox Tools menu and right-clicked on Load Time Analyzer, the author was listed as Liz Looney. Regardless of who made this plug-in, it doesn't work. It holds a record button, a clear button, and a graph button. An events-and-time tally are also displayed on the bar. There's no Help file to be found. The record button drops down to include onprogress, onlocation, onsecurity, onstate, and onstatus changes. It also includes a debugger option for onload script execution. Although each option was checked, nothing happened for our testers. The events and time-tally indicators never changed, and no information was returned. When we clicked the graph button, another window popped up, but it held no information.

This free add-on was a disappointment in every way. We strongly suggest you skip this misleading tool, which produces no results and has a different story to tell about who made it that depends on where you look.

Publisher's description

From Microsoft :

The Load Time Analyzer allows developers to measure and graph how long Web pages take to load in Firefox. Load Time Analyzer produces graphs that show the occurrence of events, such as requests for the page, images, stylesheets, and scripts, along with events like the execution of an onload script. Use it to tune the performance of your page or to help make Firefox better. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.
