Editors' review

Even kitchen novices will feel like master chefs after using the encyclopedic Living Cookbook. A battery of recipes is here, of course, offering detailed ingredients, instructions, and even images. An integrated calendar is helpful for menu planning, too. But most notable is the comprehensive glossary offering up insight into arcane cooking terms and data. You even can edit entries if your kitchen tests reveal necessary tweaks or tips. Printing and sharing tools also are handy. Anyone looking to sharpen their culinary chops will find Living Cookbook an excellent resource.

"Good app, but only one PC"

    August 19, 2013   |   By nanasarah

    Version: Living Cookbook 2013 4.0.40

    Pros

This is definitely a good app for recipes. It's easy to copy things in from the web. It will automatically figure calories and nutritional content. It has a huge database of ingredients. I've used it for several years now.

    Cons

However, I'm looking for a new recipe app. The reason is simple: this app cannot be installed on more than one computer. Most apps can be installed on several PCs at a time without extra charge. This one creates a key when you install it, and you can only do that once. To move it to a different PC, you have to ask for Radium's permission. I don't want to sell it or give it to friends. I just want to be able to browse the web on any of our PCs and put recopies in as I find them. Can't do that here without buying a full-price copy for each machine. With this app, I have to keep track of the place I found the recipe from one machine to another, then remember to put it in when I get back to where the app is installed. I'm sure this is a petty complaint to many. To me it is an unnecessary inconvenience.

    Summary

If you only own 1 PC, this is a great app. If you ever browse recipes from your alternate PCs, it's annoying as all get out.

    "Best Cookbook Software I've used"

    September 12, 2012   |   By stanandhammie

    Version: Living Cookbook 2011 3.0.34

    Pros

Over the years I've used 4-5 cookbook programs. This one seems to do it all. Everyone has different needs for this type of program, but I found it was the most accurate with nutritional data and it was easy to add your own ingredients and nutrition information. It was also simple to print out either a single recipe or an entire cookbook. I believe it is easy enough for a first-time user and yet has all the bells and whistles you need to fine tune it for your needs. Perhaps the feature that amazed me most was the ability to import recipes from so many formats and how VERY accurate the import was. This has saved me tons of time.

    Cons

It comes with several cookbooks included. Some people may want more recipes, I could care less and would be just as happy with no recipes. They are SOOO esy to import into this program from the web, that you can easily pick what you want and customize. Really no cons for me.

    Summary

I've never used a better software program for recipes. Very happy I tried it. I highly recommend it.

    "Unworthy of installation"

    March 13, 2012   |   By phixate

    Version: Living Cookbook 2011 3.0.26

    Pros

    Looks great on paper

    Cons

Software may crash on you after weeks of data entry and customization. There is a conflict with a Windows driver and .NET from what I could gather that causes slow data deletion, and a database error that crashes the program entirely so it won't boot. Support was terrible, took weeks to respond to each support email, and didn't respond when I asked for a refund twice.

    Summary

Don't waste your time and money.

    "Crashed-No support-Lost time and money"

    March 12, 2012   |   By phixate

    Version: Living Cookbook 2011 3.0.34

    Pros

LOOKS good on paper. Impressive features LIST.

    Cons

Complete and utter POS. App crashed after 2 weeks. Lost 40 hours of work and $32.

    Summary

Support non-existent. Refund not an option since they don't respond. If you buy this you are taking a big risk. It reinstalls .NET without your consent and has a conflict with a Windows driver. People who are using it OK are lucky.

"Great way to organize my recipes and find them"

    December 31, 2011   |   By Serrano84

    Version: Living Cookbook 2011 3.0.34

    Pros

Organizes recipes, figures nutrition, can add pictures and notes. Easy to pull in recipes from the web and you can go back and add comments, corrections after you try things.

    Cons

The nutrition portion doesn't recognize many common ingredients especially if you are using "ethinic" items like chilpolte chiles in adobo.
Still haven't figured out how to add an ingredient. Not user friendly on that side and help isn't.

    Summary

A great buy overall and better than any other I've come across.

"Not perfect, but the best available"

    September 20, 2011   |   By bkay

    Version: Living Cookbook 2011 3.0.34

    Pros

It does most anything and everything you would need.

    Cons

"Support" is one person who responds in the online forum and he really can't do anything except say he can't duplicate your problem. There is only one guy who can fix anything. The program has numerous "bugs", which don't seem to get fixed

    Summary

I looked at all the programs. Unfortunately, this is probably the best available.
