CNET Editors' review
This application dutifully assumes the role of online safety inspector, checking the search results found on a few popular search engines. LinkScanner Lite scans the results shown after a search request using Google, MSN, and Yahoo.
The program instantly goes to work right on the search engine's page, looking to uncover exploits, hacking, fraud, and other potentially dangerous PC threats. Icons indicating whether a site is safe, dangerous, or questionable are placed right alongside the results presented by your search engine of choice. Hover over the icon to get details like the site's domain name, IP address, and even the owner's name and address.
We like that you can still easily scan results from other search engines with a simple right-click, but it only scans one site at a time. To check out a specific URL, we had to type it onto the application's structured interface, but we would have appreciated scans from the browser or out of the system tray. Some safety indicators popped up quickly, while others took some time to appear. The app works with Internet Explorer and Firefox, and it will make you feel safer opening search results.
Publisher's Description
From AVG Technologies USA:
LinkScanner Lite analyzes sites in real time to detect a wide range of online threats including malicious content, phishing, social engineering and targeted software exploits. As you surf the web, LinkScanner Lite site ratings tell you which sites are safe and which are dangerous at the only time that matters - right before you go there. Whenever you're surfing, just right-click any hyperlink on the web and LinkScanner Lite will give you an instant page security analysis. LinkScanner Lite integrates with major search engines to check organic and paid search results; a color-coded icon appears alongside each listing, so you get advance warning of poisoned sites and can steer clear of active threats. "Terrible!"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
NOTHING
Cons
This piece of garbage should be banned from this site, it freezes your computer up, you can't load web pages, just a total waste of energy. I use the excellent McAfee site adviosr and the WOT advisor. Both run very smoothly on my Windows vista home premium 32 bit desktop.

"Yet not compatible with Firefox 3"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Cons
Yet not compatible with Firefox 3. Use WOT
-
"Bloatware"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
Like the fact there is software out there that is designed to help protect surfers from bad links on the net. Thank you linkscanner.
Cons
I consider the software bloatware. Runs in the system tray . Much more bloatware of a product then McAfee SitaAdvisor. Bothe SiteAdvisor an LinkScanner have there cons. I will use SiteSdvisor for IE7 only. SiteAdvisor just takes up to much space in FireFox. Thanks for trying LinkScanner, try again.

"slow"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
I love the concept behind programs like this. And lets face it malware and viruses are no longer limited to porn and warez websites.
Cons
The results came back very slow on my broadband connection which drove me bonkers. Stick with Mcafee SiteAdvisor.

"extremely slow"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Cons
100% junk, unless you're into slow browsing.
-
"Hogs CPU resources... give it a miss!"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
Simple interface, nothing to it really, which may be a good thing (or bad thing depending on your perspective).
Cons
Can chew up a lot of CPU resources, depending on how much browsing you're doing at the one time (i.e. number of windows open). This in turn slows everything else down. Might be ok for dual/quad core set-ups, but not recommended for single core CPUs.

"It's OK But,..."
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
Nothing, really.
Cons
it's not as good as McAfee SiteAdvisor. Link Scanner's results show up only in Web searches, not in your toolbar. SiteAdvisor is better because the results show up in Web searches AND in your toolbar, which is much more helpful. I'm going to remove Link Scanner; I'm not impressed with it.

"Not Bad"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
-
"goog Program"
Version: LinkScanner Lite 2.6.6
Pros
It scan the website before you enter
Cons
Scanning takes too long. It's better than SiteAdvisor
