Partially based on code from CDex, LameFE is a simple and efficient open-source alternative for converting multiple types of audio files. It includes four major encoders--MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, Monkey Audio, and WAV--which can be selected from an easily accessible pull-down menu. Batch processing features, Paranoia mode extraction options, and the program's small footprint help make LameFE a bit more functional than your average audio encoder. The LameFE interface is well organized and built for speed. Graphical toolbars swap in and out effortlessly, and clearly identifiable buttons allow for one-touch CD backup, multiple CD ripping, FreeDB lookup, and ID3 tag editing. While converting files, LameFE minimizes itself to the Windows system tray, so you may lose sight of the program in the taskbar. Some odd bits of German in the preferences may surprise a few users, but they don't limit LameFE's functionality.

Version: LameFE 2.2.3
Pros: I downloaded this to export MP3's from Audacity. Worked Great. Well worth the effort. I did not have any of the problems others are having.
Cons: If you are not familiar with Open Source software this may seem a bit intimidating.

Version: LameFE 2.2.3
Pros: Does the job
Cons: Some difficulty in modifying the tag information for a bunch of files in different albums and with different artists.
-
Version: LameFE 2.2.3
Cons: When run, only displays a splash screen, then disappears. No GUI, nothing in Windows Task Manager to indicate that a process is running.

Version: LameFE 2.2.3
Pros: looks up album/track info. good interface. good mp3 encoding customization options
Cons: the maximum quality mp3 encode options for lame 3.97 create a bad file with a strange bit rate and excess time when played back in a media player! and this is of importance as I am an audio afficianado.

Version: LameFE 2.2.3
Pros: It's fast, it's got as many LAME encoding options as I'm going to need in the forseeable future, and... did I mention it was fast?
Also, nice intuitive interface.
Cons: Only two bugs I've run across so far: All the Mp3's I've converted which are track #1 of X, are now all listed at track #1 of 1. Easy enough to fix. Unfortunatly, the other bug is slightly more serious: Several mp3s on my system consistantly cause the whole program to crash when I try to add the files to the queue. Can't see anything distinctive about them: They're VBR, but then again, so are a lot of files that went through fine...
