This effective and fast file-searching tool greatly enhances Windows' search functionality over a local area network, but the per-event search-area restriction is difficult. LAN Search's straightforward, novice-friendly interface offers minimal icon buttons and pull-down menus. (Advanced users will wish for a single log and configuration display.) It's easy to set the filename convention and other search criteria. The advanced search-default options are easily accessed and altered. However, it's not intuitive for novices to specify which computers or network folders to search. Advanced users will miss the option to save search-area ranges. The program makes it easy to search hidden network folders and LAN FTP servers. Search results are displayed in a spreadsheet format, or you can save them in a DAT file. The program's batch-creation function makes it a breeze to create batch files based on search results. Helpful tool tips and a comprehensive help file ease the learning curve for novices. Any user who has a home or office network will find this fast search utility very helpful.
