Keyboard Maestro allows you to define any number of hot keys actions that can be activated anywhere simply by pressing a user definable keystroke. While the final release of Keyboard Maestro will have many useful hot key types, the fifth Public Beta release of Keyboard Maestro has the following hot key types already built in:

- Switch to next application
- Activate specific application
- Quit all applications
- Quit other applications
- Hide all applications
- Hide other applications
- Hide current application
- Open files
- Launch URL
- Run an Apple Script
- Insert text
- Remap keystroke
- Many, many more to come in final release!
- Public API for 3rd Party hot keys in final release!
While in beta development, the public is welcome to use Keyboard Maestro FREE OF CHARGE until January 15th, 2002.

Pros
There's a reason John Gruber at Daring Fireball has said that this app is one that "Batman would keep in his utility belt if his utility belt were a metaphor-stretched Macintosh."
Peter at KM is super responsive, and they provide a really helpful series of email tutorials after initially signing up to help you with the learning curve.
THis app has quickly become indispensable to the way I interact w/ my Mac.Cons
Not crazy about the design aesthetic, but the genius of the app is that you rarely see it working anyway, so hardly bothers me.

Pros
I could not get along without Keyboard Maestro. Its capabilities are way beyond my talents, but I cherish the uses I have for it (55 macros and counting). Peter is very responsive, and there are some excellent MVPs.
Cons
It's hard to find a quibble, but if forced, I would recommend some work on the user interface when debugging the macros.
Summary
Excellent, powerful, capable, stable macro system for OS X. Great support.

Pros
This was a fabulous find! I was looking for a hot-key app and got so much more. It saves me tons of time on a daily basis. I'm always looking for ways to use it more and save additional time.
Cons
It's not the most intuitive app, but the instructions are clear and the developer is very responsive!

i can create custom shortcuts for almost anything imaginable.
i don't rely on program specific code snippets. keyboard maestro handles everything the same across applications.
i have it tied into my home automation system. works great!!Cons

this little application has increased my productivity more than any other application I have installed on my computer.
because it can interface with any application on my computer, i would say i use this program more than any other program on my mac.

"Fast, clever, fabulous"

Pros
I am stuck using Lotus Notes at work but use a Mac rather than Windows. Still, even on a Mac, Lotus Notes is not famous for its beauty or usability. I bought it within 4 mins of trying it, after setting up simple but great macros. Made life easy.

No cons. Seriously. This is wonderful. :-)

Keyboard Maestro is flexible and powerful enough to please the geek I am, but it's also easy to use enough for my mom. And it keeps getting better and better with each new release.
Cons
There's nothing I don't like about it.

Keyboard Maestro allows me to adapt my Macs to my needs and preferences rather than having to adapt to them. I use it for tons of different things, from adding missing features to applications and to the system, to remapping hot keys that are unplayable on my AZERTY keyboards, remotely control my Macs, or build complex macros that improve my workflows. Definitely a must!
