Despite a pretty interface, we weren't won over by this limited encryption tool. For some of our testers, KaKa File Encryption served up an error on first launch. The interface appeared after the message was cleared, but it wasn't a good first impression.

You don't need to install this executable; simply launch it when you want to use it. The interface is attractive and simple with a window for displaying selected files, a field to enter a password, and three command buttons: Add Files, Encrypt, and Close. The tiny Help file merely lists what the program offers, but the process is so simple, most should be able to jump right in and get started. Again, however, some testers received another error message when encrypting files. And although the publisher touts the program's four encryption algorithms, there isn't a way to choose one. Once the file is encrypted, its icon is replaced with a new one in the shape of a lock. The extension remains the same, though. For the problems that we encountered setting up the encrypted file, locked files were accessed without issue with the password.

This is a field packed with options, and an attractive interface isn't enough to save this flawed entry.
