"Codecs that Work"

Pros
This is the only codec package that I've found that actually enables me to watch DVD's. Easy to install.
Cons
Comes with some additional programs (bloatware) that you need to de-select to make sure the don't install. This is common with a lot of CNET's free software downloads.

The Software screws up your computers default codecs if you uninstall it. And destroys WMV files ability to auto generate video thumbnails, leaving black thumbnails. The software is also hideous to look at.
Summary
This software may allow more codec support for your computer, but at the end of the day, seriously just use VLC media player. It has all this stuff already built in to it.

worked great until the Lame mp3 codec popups started

the Lame (which is an open source encoding project name) mp3 codec popups started; they crash Internet Explorer every time; I'm using IE 9 and Windows 7 64-bit
