Editors' review

Justin.tv has come a long way since founder Justin Kan walked around broadcasting the events of his life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In truth, "YourLife.tv" would be a more accurate name for the live broadcasting service that bears Kan's name. The app lets you view live streams and broadcast your own from the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and new iPod Touch over Wi-Fi, 3G, and EDGE.

The overhauled iPhone app boasts an intuitive design, especially on the video broadcast side, which features onscreen icons to start and end broadcasts, title the video, chat with live viewers, switch between front- and back-facing cameras (on the iPhone 4), and share to Twitter and Facebook. Other icons move you between broadcast and viewing modes. All videos are recorded and shared on your registered Justin.tv channel, and optional settings can automatically post your link to Facebook and Twitter each time you begin recording a new live stream.

We experienced some delays when "finding" and with watch-live streams for contacts who we follow. Though browsing through categories worked well, discovering contacts you already know needs more work, if you don't plan on adding friends through your Facebook log-in. We also experienced a failed sign-in error message when creating an account from the iPhone. This was likely because the username was already taken, but the lack of explanation could discourage confused new users.

On the whole, the Justin.tv app did a good job streaming our live content. From the usability side, it is at least on par with competitors like Qik.
